Just Lose It - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Charlotte King and Cooper, her lover, were sitting in the office of a lawyer who had agreed to take her case, Charlotte having been raped a few weeks earlier by Lee Henry. The lawyer said that she would not take the case, all things considered, that the DA would not press charges because Charlotte had not come forward in a timely fashion when needed, that she had not identified her rapist in the police line up when she should have and that her vaginal washings taken by Addison that same night had not been presented at that time. The lawyer said that since Charlotte was a known sex therapist with kinky fetishes of her own and had been known to meet kinky men from off the internet, that all things considered, she did not have a viable case. That statement deeply angered both Charlotte and Cooper who began yelling at the lawyer as she rose to dismiss them from her office. She ended up leaving her own office and left the two sitting before her desk, yelling at one another. Cooper was at the end of his rope with Charlotte herself since she refused treatment and didn't seem to want to get better, as he stated to Wallace.

Back at the hospital, Naomi had returned from her trip abroad and was sharing color slides of it with her co-workers. She was also being brought up to speed by the doctors about what had happened during her absence. She was deeply shocked by the rape that Charlotte had suffered and the beating with it. She knew better than to approach Charlotte about the rape right at the moment because the whole office knew what she was going through with the police and the lawyer. But she told Wallace that she would find an appropriate time to speak with Charlotte about it because it had to be taken care of. Naomi knew that this would take time and some delicate treatment and she wanted to help as much as possible.

A pregnant young drug addict named Emily was brought into the hospital with extremely high blood pressure. She was given tests to see if there was something wrong with the fetus and she told Addison that she did not want the baby, that there was a doctor who wanted to pay her to take and adopt the child once it was born and cleared from the hospital. Addison happened to very much want a baby with her current lover, Sam, who didn't seem eager to have one just now. Addison had it in the back of her mind to adopt the child, but she wasn't sure how to go about it, if it would even be legal. She decided to talk with Sam about this and see what he thought. Amelia had been dealing with Emily for nine years now and told Addison that she played the field every time she fell pregnant, that she had a baby every ten months and would try to sell the infant after it was born to the highest bidder. Emily knew that there were desperate couples and single people out there who would pay most anything for a newborn baby and took every advantage to avail herself of the ready money. Amelia said that this woman should have her tubes tied when she was taken in to have her Cesarean section and then she would stop having babies. Wallace said that this might be something to seriously consider, but Addison said that it would not be legal or ethical, that Emily herself must be informed and must make the life changing decision for herself. The idea was broached to Emily and some mention of money was made at Amelia's behest and Emily accepted the offer. Unbeknownst to Emily, when the time came for her child to be born via C-section, her tubes were not tied and when she woke up, her baby was placed beside her in a clear plastic bassinet. Emily refused to even look at the baby, let alone hold it close to herself. Addison asked her why and she said that she just wanted the money right now! She seemed happy with the thought that her tubes had not been tied, that her money machine was still intact. Amelia sat on Emily's bed and waved a thousand dollars in her hand in the woman's direction, said if she signed the paper stating that she would have her tubes tied and give up the child immediately, that she could have the money. Emily's eyes brightened at that statement, grabbed for the money, but Ameila with held it until Emily had signed the paper, thene handed her the bills. The infant was brought back to the nursery where Addison stood with longing eyes at the window, watching the baby wave her little fists in the air. Addison thought how much she wanted a baby and how frustrated she was that Sam seemed not to want one presently. She knew that it would be entirely fruitless to try to convince Sam to take this newborn into their household, that it would go to some deserving and able couple very soon. She turned with a sigh from the glass and wandered down the hall. She met up with Amelia who told her that Emily would never change and Addison agreed with her.

A young seventeen year old male, Justin, was brought in for evaluation. He had gained three hundred pounds n the last three years and what could be the cause? He was asthmatic, had very high blood pressure and other severe medical problems. He was talking to Doctor Cooper when suddenly he fell over and began having bad breathing problems. He was rushed to the emergency room via ambulance and put on a respirator. His parents showed up at the hospital and after much talk, it was discovered that his mother had been molesting him for three years, hence the weight gain. As Justin regained consciousness, Cooper told him what had happened. How was he feeling? He said he was feeling better. Cooper wanted to know why he had gained so much weight recently. Justin said that he knew his own father was totally disgusted with him because of his massive weight gain. After some more prying and talking, Justin revealed very reluctantly that his mother had molested him, that he felt that the weight gain had fended her off, had been his wall of protection. Cooper was shocked and had the mother arrested because he was obligated by law to tell the police about it. Justin was shocked when he was informed of his mother's arrest, but he understood. His father came into his hospital room and talked to the young man, saying that he understood now and would be there to help his son and to protect him. A new healing between father and son had begun.

At Naomi's home, a happy Addison played with Naomi's grandson and the women present began chatting about the births of their children, about men and other subjects. Addison began to long once more about having a baby of her own while a disgusted Amelia left the gathering and went by car to Wallace's home where the men sat drinking and playing poker. She joined the game out manning the men with her talk, causing some of the men to eye her with apprehension and almost dismay and disgust. She told the men that the women at the party had only talked about babies and other silly stuff, making her leave to be with more interesting topics and people. A drunk Cooper slammed into the house after the party, telling Charlotte that he wanted a baby with her, that he missed having sex and physical love with her, and why didn't she want it any more?

Cooper talked to Wallace the next day, saying that he was completely confused by the Charlotte he knew now, that she was just a corpse of the Charlotte that he had known, and he was tired of holding up that corpse, that he saw no use in continuing with her as she was now, that she did not want help and refused to get help. Could Wallace help him, was there any hope for the two of them as a couple? Wallace didn't know because it would all depend on Charlotte wanting and getting help.
