The scene opens with Joanna, the woman Violet met in the airport six months back, stumbling into the office. She's been beaten badly, and thus is horribly bruised and battered, but loses consciousness before being able to identify her attacker. The team learns that Joanna is pregnant as she's rushed to the emergency room; the baby is about 12 weeks old. Violet believes it must be her husband, David, who has hit her in the past, Addison asks Violet if Joanna told her that. David shows up, and is told off by Violet who accuses him for Joanna’s condition; Davis instead claims he had a wakeup call after Violet talked to his wife at the airport. He also claims that he has been getting help, with things like anger management and therapy. He swears he didn't beat her. Pete too physically prevents David from coming anywhere close to Joanna. Meanwhile, at Sam’s office, Sheldon ribs Sam for sleeping with a 20 something supermodel; Jake walks in and joins the conversation.

Sam and Sheldon are wondering where they can meet single beautiful women; Jake suggest the gym. The idea appeals to the both of them. Back at the hospital, Violet doesn't believe David. Addison determines there's no fetal heartbeat. The baby is gone, and she informs David of the same. Addison also tells him that a hysterectomy would give Joanna the best chance for survival. David agrees and tells Addison to go ahead with the procedure; Violet interrupts Addison by accusing David once again. This angers David to no end. Violet knows Joanna wouldn't want a hysterectomy. Unfortunately, it's not her call. With Joanna in an unconscious state, David has the legal right to order the procedure done; a fact that Charlotte points out to everyone present. In the Meanwhile, Cooper and Erica discuss Mason’s future.
Cooper is glad to see that Erica still has hope and has not given up completely. If she had, she would have started preparing for the inevitable. He convinces Erica to meet with Amelia regarding her tumor because he believes she hasn't given up hope. Back at the hospital, Addison manages to save the patient without doing the hysterectomy. When David hears about this he isn’t happy, as he feels that’s a risk. He wants Joanna transferred to a different hospital as soon as possible, as he claims he isn’t happy with the present lot of doctors treating Joanna. Meanwhile, Amelia informs Erica and Cooper that, Erica’s condition is unfortunately past the stage of operation. The best Amelia can offer is a combination of radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Amelie informs them, that the procedures will prolong Erica’s life by about six months, but it'll be a rough ride, with side-effects like fatigue, nausea, infection etc.
Erica would much rather make the most of her remaining days with Mason by not doing the treatment. In the Meanwhile, Sam and Sheldon embark on a mission to find the perfect mate; at the gym, as suggested by Jake. The two eligible bachelors break a sweat, but can't score a date, a beautiful woman does walk up to Sam to talk. But it’s to tell him that there is a time limit on the cardio equipment he is using. Meanwhile at the hospital, when Joanna wakes up, she confirms Violet’s doubt that David beat her; it was when he found out she was pregnant. David didn’t want a baby. Teary eyed Joanna tells Violet, how she prepared a special breakfast for David, to break the news to him. She recounts how when she woke up to get David food, she turned around and saw David’s fist coming at her.
Violet says that to get to David, the police would need Joanna’s statement. But Joanna doesn't want to go to the police, Violet assuming that Joanna is afraid, tells her that she will be by her side every step of the way. Joanna clarifies that, it's not because she's afraid. It's because she's furious. She wants David dead. Her exact words to Violet are "I'm gonna kill him." Violet tells the whole gang about what Joanna told her. The group has mixed suggestions, with Sheldon and Charlotte advising Violet to go to the police, with the information about Joanna’s intentions. Later, Jake and Addison interview a surrogate, June. Elsewhere, Cooper suggests Sheldon and Sam search for a companion through cyberspace, more specifically online dating. Cooper also shares, his enriching experience with online dating.

Meanwhile, David is beyond agitated when he learns that his wife has been released from the hospital without his knowledge, he tells Charlotte that he needed a chance to talk to Joanna. David tires to manhandle Charlotte in order to intimidate her, telling her “it’s not over”. Joanna is nestled soundly on Violet’s couch; Pete is worried about Violet and suggests keeping Joanna in a shelter. Violet persists with her decision of keeping Joanna with her, as it would also help her get more information out of Joanna, about her intentions. Pete takes Lucas home with him for a few days, just to be safe. Meanwhile, Jake and Addison have a tiff over choosing the surrogates. Meanwhile, Jake is helping Sam and Sheldon with their online dating profile. Cooper joins in assisting.
Amelie wants in too. She doesn't think Sheldon needs any help writing his online dating profile since he has no problem telling a lady what she wants to hear, and Sam can just post a shirtless photo his with Dr. Bennett written at the top. Meanwhile at Violets, Joanna apologizes to her for imposing, especially when she has Lucas to worry about. The two women have a heart-to-heart, with Joanna telling Violet, how much she admires her courage. Joanna assures Violet that she has no intention of following through with her threat to kill David. Violet opens her front door to find David on the other side. He forces his way into the house. When Violet tries to pull him away from Joanna, David knocks her unconscious. She awakens to the disturbing sounds of Joanna stabbing her husband repeatedly. It's a horrific scene.
David is dead and Joanna is counting on Violet to corroborate her claim that she acted in self-defense. The look on Violet's suggests that she may not believe that's entirely true. She seeks comfort from Scott the paramedic, who assures Violet he's there for her. Meanwhile, Erica makes the necessary preparations, for her time with Mason. This includes telling Cooper that their son would like to see the Grand Canyon on his next birthday since she likely won't be there to celebrate it. Coop has been repeatedly saying that he never would have met Mason if Erica hadn't gotten sick. He feels guilty about being grateful that he got to know his son. Thankfully, Charlotte is there to ease his pain.

As for Sam, he stops himself from opening up to Addison when he sees Jake step onto her balcony. These two have decided to start hanging together after a round of failed interviews with surrogate candidates. Not even a sweet offer from Amelia to carry her child can stop Addison from putting the brakes on the baby thing for awhile in an effort to focus on something else. Could that something else be Jake?
