The scene opens with Addison recounting how swamped she was during her graduation. She had taken up an abnormal number of subjects, all in the first semester. Besides, she wanted to graduate in three and a half years, and she liked the subjects at the same time. Sam is at the police station to get his sister. She has been declared deranged by the cops, and she looks unresponsive and weather beaten to say the least. She has also been under great stress, as is evident from her face. Sam reminds her he is her brother. But there is hardly any reaction. Meanwhile, Violet are Scott are sharing niceties after having sex. She talks about her cute boy crushes, but none of them were as cute as Scott. He is not cute, he is a tough guy comments Scott. After getting his sister home, Sam has Addison over to his place, who is worried about the recent developments.

Before long, Corina, Sam’s sister comes to the kitchen. Addison introduces herself as a neighbor, and also a colleague of Sam. Corina is not responding to that, but says she is thirsty. She leaves after Sam hands her the meds, and a bottle of water. Back at the hospital, a baby is under intensive care, as Cooper and Peter are trying to save his life. The young girl, standing by, whom the doctors think is the mother, refuses to respond when asked if she has been breastfeeding. Although she is pretending to be the baby’s mother, she is not. She is the sister. She reveals how their mother is derelict in her duties, and also a drug addict. She had left her daughter when she was eight, and never returned for eight days.
She has been an ignorant mother all her life, and after Elai was born, she left him and has not been around for them. She has probably gone away for her kicks. Meanwhile, Erica is getting her chemo, when Charlotte asks if she should get Mason to the ward. However, Erica does not want her son to see her in this situation – especially in the chemo lab. Meanwhile, Cooper is with Mason, and giving him some puzzles to solve. However, he is tired of not being able to see his mommy. All Cooper can do is say she needs rest. Jake arrives at their enclosure for coffee, and wants to know how Erica is doing. Cooper sides him up, and tells him the real story, keeping it away from Mason, who can neither hear their conversation, nor concentrate on any puzzle in front of him. A while later, Amelia approaches Charlotte and wants to know if she can get a couple of days off. She believes a miracle is possible for Erica – and she wants to research and find out where that miracle might be available.
When Addison observes infant Elai’s case, she suggests a surgery. When Cooper suggests the baby is too weak to sustain surgery, Addison remarks every breath he takes is a risk. The virus and bacteria development have to be stopped in order to save his lungs. Before long, Elai’s mother comes to the hospital. Melissa is sorry for her behavior, especially in case of her daughter, but this time she fled, not to score drugs, but to cleanse herself. She did it herself, locked up in a motel room for eight days. Cooper is laying into her for all the malfunction she has already caused in her baby’s organs, but Melissa tries to explain. She knows she has been a bad mother, and why her daughter has issues. But she is fighting to make a new start.
Amelia arrives at Erica’s ward to tell her she might have a chance in New Zealand, where a doctor is experimenting with cures for brain tumors, but for Erica moving to the bathroom is also difficult at times. Amelia tries coaxing her, but it turns out Erica is not ready to fly across oceans. As it is, she is sacrificing time with Mason to get cured. She doesn’t want to get on a plane of all things. Meanwhile, Addison and Violet discuss sex. And it turns out that while Violet is having great mind numbing sex with a younger man who has abs like marble and a back worth dying for, Addison still misses Sam. Sam is with Sheldon, who explains that Corina needs to be taken off the meds. They need to see how she is without them. That will help in a proper diagnosis. Being labeled deranged is not a diagnosis Sheldon finds valid. When Sam and Jake are at the office kitchen, Addison talks with Sam about Corina. Addison might be worried for real, but Jake knows the real deal. After Sam leaves, he tells Addison to stop being friends with Sam. Accept the fact that Sam is an ex. Don’t try to make do things that might end up hurting her.

Before long, Peter finds Violet making out with Scott in the hallway – which is enough to make him livid. Clearly Pete is not getting used to his ex-wife doing hanky panky with someone else. At the baby’s ward, Melissa and her daughter come face to face, and they start a fight over caring right. Before long, Elai’s condition deteriorates and alarms start beeping. Doctors rush in and Addison takes the lead. Meanwhile, Charlotte is unable to control Mason’s fury about being kept away from his mother. He throws the food on the ground, and runs away out of the main door. Charlotte chases in panic. She reports it to Cooper, who is about to report to the cops.
Sheldon is at therapy with Corina. When asked, she is feeling slightly better. Has she been formally diagnosed? Schizophrenic, manic depressive, runaway delusions – these are some of the terms she mentions. When Sam arrives in Sheldon’s chamber, Sheldon wants to know how it was growing up with Corina. Sam explains she went from being the happiest party girl to what she is now. She would be wild, fun and everything you can picture about a happy person. However, once, when she made some snacks, she started playing with fire – and started fanning it instead of putting it off. Luckily, Sam had a fire extinguisher around him, and managed to save the house from going up in flames. After that, Corina went quiet for three days. Then, she went into a frenzy – the whole world was agaist her, Sam was too. She even thought Sam wanted to kill her. He loves her with all his heart, but when Sheldon says she is in him, he doesn’t know what to think.
Later, Charlotte is able to find Mason – sitting on a bench along a sidewalk. She tries explaining something about her childhood, and why her father wouldn’t let her out with her older cousins, but Mason has a stronger point to make. He wants to see his mom, or else, he is beginning to think she is dead. Meanwhile, Addison drops by at Sam’s place. Corina’s asleep, and they end up having sex. At the hospital, Cooper explains Mason’s desperation, and Erica wants to see him immediately. Later, Charlotte arrives in Erica’s ward, and wants to know how long she is going to keep Mason in the dark. Tearfully, Erica says she can’t reveal she is dying. Charlotte is on the phone with someone important, but Amelia has to speak to her. Now.

She has a lead – Erica won’t have to fly to New Zealand – she will have to fly to Seattle. And Amelia’s brother, Derek, can help. Meanwhile, Cooper tries explaining to Melissa’s daughter, that she might be right in hating her mother for the careless behavior, but they are a family, and should look after one another. Besides, Elai will have a better world around him because of her. People might have done bad things, but that does not mean they are entirely bad. Later, Melissa and her daughter share a moment of bonding, when she tells her mother she has to make amends with Elai. And later, news about cure – not just buying time – reaches Erica. She feels it is possible for her now. And she won’t have to tell Mason anything yet. Sam and his sister Corina sit by a beach. For the first time after finding her, he finds a smile on her face. This place reminds her of a beach house they used to visit as children. Sam’s eyes are oozing with tears. The episode ends.
