  Episode Summary
September 13, 1956/Summer 1968: In 1989 Doctor Samuel Beckett takes an elite group of scientists into New Mexico to develop a top secret project called "Quantum Leap". Even though it is not ready yet and Gooshie warns Sam not to leap, he steps into the accelerator. Sam awakes with his memory "swiss-cheesed". Al tells Sam who he is, how he got there and what he has to do to leave. Striving to put right what once went wrong, Sam Beckett leaps from life to life, hoping each time, that his next leap, will be the leap home.

  Episode Quotes
Sam: Who are you?
Al: My name is Albert...Albert what, I can't tell you because it's restricted. Most of what you'll want to know is restricted, so it would be a lot easier if you don't ask questions.
Sam: What are you?
Al: That's a question, Sam.

Sam: (looking up at the starry night sky) Please, God. I would like to wake up now.

Sam: (to Peggy) Who is that man over by the machine?
(Al waves to Sam)

Sam: Do you have to do that?
Al: What? You want me to walk around something that isn't there? Fine.
(He walks around the plane)
Sam: What do you mean? Not there?
Al: To you I am a hologram, right? Well to me, you, and everything around you, is a hologram too.

Gooshie: Doctor Beckett is leaping!
