Episode Quotes
Sam: Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? (8) This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. (9) A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. (10) I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded, but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.

Sam: (fervently) It doesn't make what he did right.

Al: The best Ziggy can come up with is that you're here to play...Oh, play Rhett Butler...

Sam: Did he rape you?
Lila: Some would say so. Some not.
Sam: What would you say?

Lila: Me and my momma buried seven
brothers and sisters in that bayou that Miss Sadie took me out of. I wasn't giving no one no reason to send me back...so I let him. Is that rape?

Sam: No! No way!

Sam: (narrating) Please God, Let me say something legal.

Sugee Dancey: I'm going to bake you a pecan pie....and let you play Rhett Butler tonight...Fiddle dee dee.

Sam: (reading from the Bible, Galations Chapter 5:7-10) I am confident you will not take the wrong view, "but the man who is unsettling your mind, whoever he may be, must bear God's judgement.

Lila: In the name of Jesus? How can they say he did that?
Sam: They can say it because you won't defend yourself!

Lila: Now I know how the Christians felt.
Sam: No one's going to throw you to the lions.

Sugee: If Papa were alive, he'd die.

Sam: Well, that being the case, Your Honour, since the law requires a trial by a jury of one's peers, we have no choice but to reluctantly accept these white jurors as Lila's equals.

Al: Well I thought so too but then I remembered what you said about her eyes.
Sam: About losing myself in them?
Al: Well, no. Me, maybe. You, never. But you saw the truth in them. That's probably why you got this job.

Bo: I object.
Judge Haller: You can't expect a man to plead his case with his fly open, Bo.

Myrtle: It's funny how the mind can turn things around and make it seem right.

Myrtle: I suppose love no longer could soften the back of his hand.

Lila: I suppose the electric chair is kind of a modern day stake for a modern day witch.

Sadie: Those who don't know, shouldn't talk.

Lila: Chilvalry is not dead. Just waiting in the wings.

Sam: What did he say?
Al: He said, "I'm a lawyer. Take me to your leader." Imagine it! The first alien contact and it's a lawyer.
