The unnamed senator from Massachusetts - the brother-in-law of Peter Lawford - is, of course, John F. Kennedy, with whom Marilyn Monroe is believed to have had a long standing affair both before and during his presidency.

Although Marilyn Monroe was still married to her third and final husband, the American playwright Arthur Miller, in April 1960, there is no acknowledgement of this in the episode itself. In fact, Miller is not even mentioned at any point.
