Magic - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Sam heads out to work but his car keys disappear out of his hand when he tries to unlock the door. He ends up taking a taxi but the money and wallet vanishes when he tries to pay the cabbie. Once he checks in, Ben finds the keys in his pocket and Sam figures it’s his new devil power kicking in. Sock is busy setting up the paint shaker as a rodeo bull ride and gets thrown into a rack of paint cans. They find Sam’s wallet in a paint can, then he goes in and waits on a customer and hallucinates the man stabbing him through the chest. Sock takes him to the vessel box that’s appeared in the back, where it’s shaking like something inside of it.

Andi comes in and they quickly cover, and she asks Sam to come with her on a seven-hour road trip for a concert with Sock, Ben, and Josie. Sam agrees, and Ted calls them in and wants to know about the paint cans and orders them not to have any social activities while he plans to make their lives hell. Sam and Sock share a beer but when Sam heads out back, the Devil arrives and teleports him to a car wreck of a man shipping apples. There’s a dead man in the car and the Devil reveals an escaped soul did it. The man died when the car was moving and the Devil talks about it being “like magic.” The Devil eventually gives Sam a name, Bellifiore, and figures Sam is in a hurry so he can go to the concert. The Devil isn’t impressed and tells Sam he won’t be getting vacation for the rest of his life. When Sam protests, he almost gets run over by two trucks and the Devil hopes Sam has got the point.

Back at the Work Bench, the guys prepare to open the box, and find… a dove in a cage. Sam tries to look up Bellifiore on the internet but first the mouse disappears and then Sock and Ben. Fortunately they disappear in time to avoid Ted. Making the connection, Sam connects Bellifiore with disappearing and finds out that he was a magician in 1929. Watching a DVD, they find out that he was a waiter with ambitions, but ended up killing a audience member and getting hung for murder. Andi notes that she could only get two tickets and asks if he wants to go alone with her. As Sam helps load up a customer’s purchase, he sees that she’s purchased apple. He finds out that she bought the apples at a food festival and the guys head there. A magician, Dash Ariell, is performing and he’s a dead ringer for Bellifiore. When the crowd doesn’t applaud him, he brings a man up on stage and stabs him through the chest without killing him. Bellifiore disappears and the guys head backstage but can’t find him. As they head outside, they find the audience volunteer dead, crushed as if in a car accident.

That night at the bar, Sam commiserates in his beer and Ben suggests that he take a look at the contract his parents signed with the Devil. He talks to his mother and after some searching, they finally find it in with the tax forms. However, there’s nothing in the envelope but ashes. Sam goes outside and heads for work, only for his car to disappear this time. As he walks to work, the Devil offers him a ride. Sam refuses and demands to see the contract, but the Devil informs him he has no rights and offers to get him some incentive. The Devil goes to the Work Bench and walks up to Andi, smiling.

Sam finally arrives at the Work Bench and finds his car… along with a ticket for handicapped parking. In the store, Sam needs to head out for the next magic show so he and Sock hit up Ted to go to lunch and attend a driveway sealant seminar. Ted knows about the magic store, revealing that Andi came in and offered her free tickets to the magic show. Sam meets up with Ben, who reveals that the dove is loose and he’ll have to bring it along. Sam heads for the door and has to promise Ted he’ll work extra shifts so he can get to the show.

Andi is watching Bellifiore at the show when Sam sneaks in. She says he left her a voice mail to meet her and he tries to get her out, but Bellifiore comes up behind him and gets the audience to encourage him to volunteer. Andi volunteers instead so Sam has no choice but to accept. Up on stage, Bellifiore prepares to stab Sam with a sword but when he offers it to Sam to hold, Sam runs offstage. Bellifiore goes after him and demands the sword. Sam realizes he has no power without the sword but Bellifiore telekinetically pulls the sword around the stage until Sam lets go. The magician comes after him and Sam runs outside but ends up trapped. He takes refuge in a truck as Bellifiore skewers the truck and Sam barely manages to climb out as the magician stabs up through the roof. Sam jumps over the fence and Ben and Sock arrive with the dove. Sam realize magic is the key and makes the dove disappear. A horde of black birds appear out of the sky, tear Bellifiore apart, and materialize back in the cage as the dove.

The guys take the dove to Gladys at the DMV and Ben says a tearful goodbye to the dove he’s befriended. Back at the Work Bench, Sam tries to come up with a story to explain what happened then says he can’t go because he has to work the weekend and can’t explain why he took on the shifts. Andi is mad and can’t understand why he doesn’t want to spend time alone even though they’re friends.

Later at the bar, the Devil arrives and offers Sam time off, which doesn’t do Sam any good. The Devil offers to make amends and Sam asks for the contract. The Devil gives in and agrees to try and dig up a copy. He also points out that Andi must be interested or she wouldn’t have got so mad, and shares a beer with Sam.
