Sam and the guys are heading out in the aftermath of Sam’s “break up” with Andi. As they’re heading for the bar, the same song,
Radar Love, keeps playing on the radio and Sam figures it’s the Devil’s intervention. He insists on having a night for himself and turns off the radio. However, when they get to the bar nothing is going on until a bachelorette party comes over. One semi-drunk woman, Taylor, plants a kiss on Sam and they exchange numbers, but the women take off when none of the guys refuse to do a strip dance for them.
After an otherwise boring night, the guys get in for work the next day and find Sam’s new vessel: an 8-track tape of a movie soundtrack, the movie
Love, Bullets, and Blacktop. When Sam tries to find a way to play it, Andi volunteers her dad’s 8-track player but it’s awkward for Sam now that they’re back to being friends. It gets worse when Taylor calls Sam on his cell phone and he tries to claim to Andi that Taylor is his dentist. He gets away to get her some coffee but the steam rises up from the machine and he ends up teleported to a train wreck. The Devil spends more time probing into Sam’s newfound love life then explaining that an escaped pair of souls, Holly and Kit, are stating accidents for the thrill of it. Eventually the Devil shows Sam the wrecked car that Holly and Kit were driving, a blue 1970 Mustang, and as he leaves it plays
Radar Love on its radio.
Ben buys a copy of the movie on eBay and they catch a newscast of another car wreck. Sam figures that Holy and Kit keep using the same car, a 1970 blue Mustang, that’s on the soundtrack cover. Unfortunately they don’t know much about cars so they have to go to a co-worker, Russ, who is stuck I the ‘70s and wants to party down. Despite Ben’s best efforts, they manage to avoid Russ’ invite and get directions to a car club meeting. Equipped with Andi’s 8-track player, Sam goes to the meeting and plays
Radar Love, causing one couple to start dancing. Sam and sock go after them but they jump off of a parking garage, land on Ben’s car, and walk away after healing.
Meanwhile, Taylor come to the Work Bench and hits on Andi for information about Sam. The guys get back and Sock comes up with a plan: he takes a picture of Russ’ orange Mustang, Photoshops it blue, and puts it up for sale on the Internet. Andi encourages Sam to give Taylor a call, but he’s still uncomfortable given his feelings for Andi. Sam ends up teleported to a church wedding where the Devil is again more interested in talking about love, although he dismisses it as “endorphins and genitalia.” It turns out that Taylor is at the weddings as a bridesmaid and the Devil leaves Sam to stammer through another encounter with her until they finally agree to go out for a drink.
Kit and Holly finally take the bait and come to the Work Bench to check out the car. Kit comes over while Sam hides nearby, and Sock and Ben try to lure the soul in further and get Holly over. Kit tries to make a break for it but Sam plays the 8-track and it grabs Kit with tape and imprisons him. Just before he gets sucked in, Kit tells Holly that he’ll “meet her at midnight.” Holly gets away before Sam can capture her as well.
Ben’s tape finally comes but it’s in Betamax and they don’t have a player. They have no choice but to go party with Russ and use his Betamax player. Before they can watch the movie, Holly drives through the wall and knocks out Russ, then demands the 8-track back. Sam slips her one of Russ’ and she leaves.
Finally Sam ends back up at the store with Russ’ Betamax and Andi offers to help him watch it. She has a TV room set up in the boxes in the back of the store and the two friends have a good time watching the lousy movie. After she dozes off, Sam spots the couple in the film meeting at the Midnight Autobody Shop. Figuring that’s what Kit meant with his last words, the gang go to the shop with the 8-track player, but Holly manages to knock them out, although Sam drops the real 8-track without her realizing it. She prepares to torture them for the secret of how to get Kit out of the (fake) 8-track, but Ben and Sock distract her by (badly) singing
Radar Love. Sam manages to grab the real 8-track and uses it to capture Holly.
Sam meets with Taylor and they share a drink, then he decides to be spontaneous and gets her in the backroom. However, he backs off at the last minute, torn between Taylor and his feelings for Andi. He goes outside to find the Devil having a beer and saying how he was just trying to help Sam. Sam doesn’t believe it and figures the Devil is trying to tempt him again. He wonders if the Devil even knows what love is, but the Devil isn’t impressed and says he’s big on the lust. However, after Sam leaves the Devil switches the jukebox to a romantic ballad and looks pensive...
