Rebellion - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Andi is being examined at the hospital and the doctor tells her she’s recovering well. He wonders if she’s been experiencing hallucinations and she wonders about the night of the accident. He assures her that hallucinations aren’t unusual. The doctor goes out into the hallway… and meets with Sam. The “doctor” is actually a janitor Sam has hired to convince her she hallucinated the demon she saw that night.

The guys are at the condo receiving deliveries intended for the previous owner. Sam goes to the bathroom to use the toilet, which starts smoking. He opens it… and finds himself at a bus stop where the Devil says he’s bored and suggests they get some ice cream. Sam refuses and the Devil explains Sam’s new target is Cubby Bryce, a lawyer who is draining his clients dry… literally.

Sam meets Andi and Josie at the Work Bench and Andi says she’s discovered life is too short to waste, and she insists they’re going on a date. Josie is leaving when Sock spots her and notes she’s still wearing his scarf. She insists she isn’t interested in him and gives the scarf to an awed Ted.

Sam sets up a workman’s comp meeting with Bryce and Ben wonders why Bryce’s name sounds familiar. Steve and Tony get Sam over to the secret chamber and announce they’re part of a resistance that plans to overthrow the Devil. They want Sam on board so they can use his friendship with the Devil and Sam agrees so the Devil will be defeated and Sam’s soul is free and clear.

Sam calls Ben and Sock to let them know what’s going on, then cuts off when the Devil appears. He wants to know what’s up… about Sam refusing to get ice cream with him. The Devil leaves off the vessel and departs, and Sam discovers the vessel is a whip. At the Work Bench, Ted asks Sock for Josie’s phone number, figuring Josie will shut him down.

Steve and Tony pick up Sam and take them to their resistance meeting. It turns out that demons are doing good deeds, although one of the main members, Bob, almost gave in and ate a child. Fortunately, his sponsor Randy came through for him. Tony introduces Sam to the group, but Sam wonders how doing good is going to take down the Devil. Steve assures him it will work… eventually. Sam leaves but Tony goes after him and admits that sometimes he thinks they need something more violent. Bryce then calls Sam and sets up a meeting for the Work Bench that night.

Bryce meets with them that night and the guys try to capture them. Bryce throws leeches at Ben and Sam tries to use the whip without much success. Bryce pins him down but Sock knocks him off and Sam manages to eventually nail the lawyer with the whip.

At the Work Bench the next day, Sam and Andi plan their date but find themselves passionately kissing each other. They decide to meet at Sam’s place. Sock drops in on Ted who thanks him for setting him up with a date for Josie. They have a new date that night at her apartment. Sock warns him nothing will happen but Ted explains that Josie prefers to go out with guys beneath her. Sock doesn’t believe that Josie would believe she’s better then him.

Steve and Tony pick up Sam and take him to the resistance headquarters and reveal they’ve captured a human sacrifice. Bob, who worked legal in Hell, knows of a way for Sam to replace the sacrifice’s soul with his. Sam refuses to kill the man, a drug dealer, and the demons realize they’re backsliding. Steve take the drug dealer back while Tony insists they need to get violent and kill the Devil. The other demons agree and Tony says they need Sam to get the Devil’s cell number so they can get him there and kill him. Tony reveals his demon form and boasts that he can deal with him.

Sock goes to visit Josie and accuses her of thinking she’s better then him. She thinks he’s crazy and Ted is an idiot, but she admits she’ll date someone who is willing to give it a shot. She assures Sock that she dated Sock because she really liked him. They share a moment… and a while later Ted shows up to find Sock in Josie’s bathrobe. He congratulates his employee and leaves with his scarf.

A sulking Devil shows up at the Work Bench and Sam offers to go for ice cream with him. The Devil can’t eat ice cream because it disappears when he touches it, but enjoys watching Sam. He admits that he doesn’t believe humans can experience love but he knows true love: for God. The Devil is comforted that he finally has someone that will listen to him. Sam doesn’t believe they’re friends and notes that he has to wait of the Devil to zap him to somewhere. The Devil gives him his private cell phone number and tells him it’s only for emergencies. Sam gives the number to Tony who reveals they have the Sword of the Archangel Michael, which banished Lucifer himself in the first heavenly war. They have to cut out the Devil’s tongue and hands and finally his heart. and they have Sam to thanks.

At the condo, Sam briefs Sock and Ben on what’s going on but admits he feels bad about double-crossing him. They tell him to buck up just as Andi arrives for the date. The guys head up for the roof while Sam and Andi end up making out on the couch. She admits she trusts him completely and Sam says there are certain things he can’t tell her and if that’s a problem, he’ll break it off with her. She accepts that but as they start to kiss, Steve drags him into the secret chamber. Tony has been working behind Steve’s back because Steve insists on pacifism. He tries to antagonize Steve but he refuses to turn violent and insists on trying to redeem himself.

Tony grabs Sam and heads for the resistance headquarters where Bob and the other demons are assembled, and Bob is wielding the Sword. Steve interrupts the meeting to beg them to avoid violence but no one agrees. Tony asks him to stay and Steve gives in out of his love for his partner.

As Sam prepares to call the Devil’s number, Ben and Sock come down for some beer and Ben spots a shipping notice. He realizes where he’s heard Bryce’s name: he’s the former occupant all the shipments have been for. Ben realizes the Devil has set them up so Sam would meet Tony and Steve and become involved in their revolution. Sock doesn’t believe it until Ben points out that the signature on the contract is “Satan.”

Ben calls Sam just before he calls the Devil, and tries to warn him. A desperate Tony grabs the phone and dials the Devil, who appears before them. Bob tries to destroy him with the sword but the Devil reduces him to dust and shows them that he sword is a fake that he arranged for them to find. The Devil brings the building down, killing the assembled demons, then zaps outside with Sam. He notes that he knew Sam would betray him and thanks him for getting them all together in one place. Sam figures that the Devil feared their plan to be good would work. However, the Devil notes that it’ll never happen and changes his cell phone number. As they leave, they’re unaware that Tony has survived and is planning revenge.
