Episode Notes
There were several endings prepared for the conclusion of Series VIII of Red Dwarf. The original plan was for the Red Dwarf crew to return to Earth at hyper-speed and crash into various landmarks en route to landing, but this was deemed too expensive to film.

Another ending, which was filmed but cut at the last minute, saw Rimmer, after several back-and-forth attempts, successfully read the virus-thwarting formula to the Red Dwarf crew, allowing them to save the ship. With pretty much the entire crew having evacuated except for those still in the 'Dwarf's prison The Tank, the 'Dwarfers celebrate the retaking of their home with a party. Rimmer instructs Kryten to ignore the now adrift crew (including a downhearted Captain Hollister) and to keep going forward, he then has another altercation with the vending machine who, as in the transmitted version, knocks him to the ground with a carefully trajected can.
