Red Dwarf

Red Dwarf

Red Dwarf is a hilarious British comedy set in space on the mining ship "Red Dwarf", then after a few seasons moving onto it's shuttle craft, the "Starbug". The show mostly revolves around the character of Dave Lister (Craig Charles) who is the last human in the galaxy after the rest of the crew were killed while Lister was in suspended animation. Three million years later he is revived by the senile ship's computer Holly and accompanied by the hologram of his dead bunkmate Arnold Rimmer, Cat (who evolved from Listers old cat into a human form) and (from Series 3) the robot Kryten, as they try to get back to Earth.

What can be said about Red Dwarf, well it's a 'lads' program, it has drinking, curries, blow up dolls, a love of Napoleon, a love of telegraph poles, toy soldiers, organ music, electric guitar playing (badly), and cameraderie. Oh and yes, it's set in very outer space millions and millions of years from now. Read more

Recaps
1x6: Me2 recap: Dave is going through the sleeping quarters separating his things out from Rimmer’s. He finds a video of Rimmer’s death as Rimmer comes in and explains that it’s one of the most important things that came to him. Rimmer insists that moving out is the best decision he’s ever made because everything Dave ever did held him back. Dave insists that it wasn’t one-way and tells Rimmer that he can’t blame him for his lousy life. Rimmer is happy to share his new life with someone who understands him: Rimmer-2. Rimmer-2 comes in and they salute each other... read more.

1x5: Confidence and Paranoia recap: Dave is in the drive room watching a recording of a movie when Holly interrupts and asks if he’s bored. A lot. He explains that he’s read every book ever and doesn’t know what to do. Holly wants to create a perfect replica of a woman, catching Dave’s interest, but he admits he doesn’t know how. The computer asks Dave to erase some of his memories so he can reread Agatha Christie mysteries again. Dave does so and Holly doesn’t remember him doing it... read more.

1x4: Waiting For God recap: Rimmer asks Holly for Dave’s confidential reports and the computer reluctantly gives them to him. According to Hollister, Dave has no career prospects. Rimmer is impressed with the former captain’s insight, until he learns that Hollister didn’t think much of him, either. Holly detects an unidentified object approaching Red Dwarf and shows it to Rimmer. Rimmer tells him to identify it and stalks off... read more.

1x3: Balance of Power recap: Rimmer is having Dave perform an inventory check of the ship’s supplies. Dave finally demands a break so he can go for a drink but Rimmer insists that they’re having fun. Rimmer puts Dave in command for a few seconds and Dave says that he wants to relax, much to Rimmer’s disgust. Dave asks for his cigarettes and Rimmer reminds him that he gets one cigarette for each day that Dave obeys him. When Dave threatens to take more than Rimmer thinks he should have, Rimmer threatens to eject the rest of the hidden ship’s stock into space. Dave gives in and goes out to smoke... read more.

1x2: Future Echoes recap: Dave is driving through the corridors of Red Dwarf and stops to get some food. The dispensing machine gives him a pair of shoes and admits that his vocabulary circuits are malfunctioning. Rimmer jogs by, tells Dave he's a slob, and keeps going to his quarters. He asks Holly for a clean hologrammatic uniform and a crewcut, and the computer points out that they're going to hit light-speed in 24 hours and he's a bit busy plotting navigational coordinates. Rimmer orders him to do it anyway and Holly gives him a bouffant... read more.
