Rescue Me is a drama about the inner workings of 62 Truck of the New York Fire Department and the men that comprise its firehouse. It can, at times, be a dark look at what kind of person it takes to forgo his own personal well-being and run into a burning building while others are running out. It also looks into the fraternal relationship that each shares with each other because few can understand what it’s like to stare death in the eyes and not blink. It’s these relationships that begin to define them. Sometimes, it begins to be a detriment to their family lives.
The series revolves around Tommy Gavin, a firefighter who must deal with the constant struggles with his estranged family, ex-wife, Janet, his alcoholic past, and the loss of his young son, Connor. The stress and fear of his job causes Tommy to see visions of the people he has seen perish and of his cousin, Jimmy O’Keefe, who lost his life at the World Trade Center on that fateful day in 2001. We follow Tommy as everything he has ever believed in is challenged and he must face who he really is.
Others in his firehouse include Franco Rivera, a womanizing, superb firefighter who would do anything for his young daughter, Keela. Lt. Kenneth "Lou" Shea is a fierce and respected leader who is recently divorced and was a victim of a beautiful young woman who conned him. Chief Jerry Reilly is coming to terms with his wife’s condition and his son’s sexuality. Sean Garrity and the Probie, Mike Silletti, round out the other firefighters in the house on Tommy’s crew.
Though their lives are flawed, there is no one else that you would want running in after you if you are trapped with a wall fire all around you.
The Theme Song is C'mon C'mon performed by The Von Bondies.
