While awaiting the section 8 hearing, Tommy is coerced by Mickey to get a AA sponsor and gets into a fight with Janet's new boyfriend. Meanwhile, a French reporter asks for a first hand account of 9/11 from the guys. Teddy goes into a funk, still grieving over his brother. Also, Sheila becomes a Big Sister; and Mike buys himself a bar.

Tommy decides it's time for him to have a chat with Colleen about the birds and the bees, after hearing about her relationship with Bart. Tommy also agrees to talk with a French reporter concerning 9/11 for a book she is writing, which causes friction between Mike and Franco. Meanwhile, Mike finds a new name for his bar; Sean seeks treatment for his bad back; and Tommy meets Sheila's psycho-dramaturge.

Lou is interested in Genevieve and decides to cooperate with her. Meanwhile, Mike opens his bar; Sean's back is still in pain; and Sheila's psycho dramaturge instructs her to "purge" herself of Tommy.

Tommy becomes concerned about Katie's whereabouts after a run in with Janet's brash new boyfriend. Sheila has finally come to terms with the death of Jimmy after seeing the 9/11 tapes, as Damien decides to follow in his dad's footsteps. Also, Sean receives the results of his medical tests, and Colleen and Bart discuss the parameters of their relationship.

Tommy explains to Genevieve why the 9/11 footage of Jimmy Keefe is haunting as they tour Ground Zero. And Franco comes under attack for his 9/11 conspiracy theories. Meanwhile, Mark's bar is successful; Sean learns he must scrape up $12,000 quickly; Tommy and Lou have a falling out; and Janet explains to Tommy why she sent Katy to a boarding school upstate.

Tommy and Janet head upstate to Katy's boarding school for a weekend visit, and Teddy and Maggie wind up in Maryland, where they become volunteers at a V.A. hospital. Back in New York, Lou receives love tips from Franco, and Sean develops a new health issue.

Tommy is being haunted by ghosts, not just from 9/11, but also his father, brother Johnny and cousin Jimmy. Meanwhile, the health of Sean continues to deteriorate, and black Sean is still missing. Also, Lou and Needles try to convince Franco into entering the FDNY boxing tournament, Mike and Damien become good friends, and a nervous young man comes into the bar at closing time.

Needles and Dwight both put the heat on Tommy, and receives offers from both Sheila and Janet. Sean reveals his illness to his mother; black Shawn sees Colleen once again; and Franco gives it a try in the boxing ring.

Tommy questions his feelings in a dream sequence with his dead father, brother and son, and Jimmy Keefe, after experiencing a horrific accident on the job. Meanwhile, an unwanted visitor comes to see Sean at the hospital; and Lou has a very-much-wanted visitor in his apartment.

Franco participates in his first boxing match of the FDNY tournament, and he and Carla have a chance meeting outside the gym. Meanwhile, Candy cooks a dinner for Lou; the guys bring a surprise for Sean in the hospital, and he has one for them. The gang plans an outing for the kids in the cancer ward.
 
67 :05x15 - Initiation (Jul/14/2009)
Sheila reminds Tommy of his promise to watch over Damien as he joins Engine 62. Meanwhile, Janet explains the guidelines of their relationship with Tommy; the guys attend a dedication to a firefighter who died on 9/11; and Sean is released from the hospital having vowed to "live life to the fullest."

A party is ruined at Mike's bar by a mob of women. Meanwhile, Lou and Mike make some important personal decisions; and Tommy is given an ultimatum by Sheila and Janet.

A no-nonsense woman walks into the firehouse spouting trash and looking for a date. Both Janet and Sheila give Tommy an ultimatum. Lou and Needles instigate a battle of the sexes, and Sean's latest medical condition is a hit below the belt.

When Kelly continues to probe the firehouse for men, Tommy steps in to put a halt on her advances on Damian. Lou approaches Needles to act as a buffer to Tommy for the upcoming nuptials.
