Tommy Gavin is a firefighter with 62 Truck of the FDNY. He's somewhat of a troubled soul. He's still having trouble with the loss of his best friend, cousin, and firefighter - Jimmy. Jimmy was lost and on 9/11 and Tommy still sees him in his mind and talks to him. Additionally, he sees children he's tried to save that didn't make it as well.
Tommy and his wife, Janet, are in the middle of getting a divorce and Tommy is having a hard time with her seeing other men. It's not easy as she lives across the road with their three children.
The other guys of 62 truck have their own quirks including womanizing, gambling problems, and depression. They all play if off as it's no big thing, but each will undoubtedly have to deal with their demons in their own way.

Tommy: I'm having a drink.
Jimmy: but, but what about AA? You were sober for what, a year?
Tommy: 14 months to be exact,... cheers.

Tommy: Whadda you talkin' about?
Franco: Look, when you and Janet spit, you went around tellin' me and all the guys how great it was gonna be to be single again - booze, broads, and blowjobs - blah, blah, blah. Now look at ya, sitting in a house across the street spying on your ex-wife.

Tommy: My cousin, the priest, says it's because it's all apart of God's plan. Like God's got a plan. Ya know what? If there is a god,... he's got a whole shit load of explaining to do.
