Then as a lot of guilty pleasure you'lll have to at least watch one just to say you've watched it even though you probably won't continue watch it. "Rescue Me" is another FX show that presents dysfunctional characters in real time situations this time centering around the life of firefighters in New York City. Well I watched the first season of this and still really could care less about the characters. It's very similar to other shows on FX like "Nip Tuck", "The Shield", and "The Riches" in that mainly it deals with dysfunctional characters. That's it a nutshell. Tommy Gavin is a homophobic, sexist, drug using, violent and troubled human being so it's quite hilarious to see a character like this being a firefighter when lives around counting on him (I sure as hell wouldn't call him if there was a fire). Gavin's on and off again relationship with his ex-wife is a true laughfest as he will do practically anything to get her back (including framing her boyfriend for crimes he didn't commit...Vic Mackey anyone?). I'd be curious to hear what real life firefighters think of this show. The rest of his crew aren't much better than Gavin consisting of a lot of playboys and loose cannons most notably the Chief himself (who finally decided to kill himself in cowardly fashion). The women on this show on the bright side are extremely hot and is probably one of the shows strong suits. The firefighting scenes are also well detailed I will admit. The storylines themselves are a mix bag though. Like I said if you like dysfunctional characters you'll love the show as the characters can deliver a lot of laughs. On the minus side though it's hard to stay with these characters as they are completey nuts and hypocritical at times. Much like the other FX shows with similar themes you know what you're getting when you watch a show like this Review posted on Sunday, September 16th 2007 at 12:31 am |
