River pirate Darius brings a blindfolded Oliver to the cave hideout of his boss, John Murrell. Murrell refuses to let Oliver remove his blindfold and demands his report, but Oliver refuses to report without knowing who he works for. Murrell agrees and Oliver informs him that there's a man in Natchez shopping for a boat to take a valuable cargo, enough to stock a general store, to St. Louis. The pirates know the man, a carpenter named Dan Simpson who they robbed three years ago. John Murrell: Darius will handle it.
Oliver: Umm, why not me?
John Murrell: Because you'll be dead.
