River pirate Darius brings a blindfolded Oliver to the cave hideout of his boss, John Murrell. Murrell refuses to let Oliver remove his blindfold and demands his report, but Oliver refuses to report without knowing who he works for. Murrell agrees and Oliver informs him that there's a man in Natchez shopping for a boat to take a valuable cargo, enough to stock a general store, to St. Louis. The pirates know the man, a carpenter named Dan Simpson who they robbed three years ago. When Oliver says that he'll set up the plan in Natchez, Murrell tells him that Darius will handle it and shoots the informant dead...

Episode Quotes
Oliver: Well, I'll get on down the river to Natchez and set up the plan for you, John.
John Murrell: Darius will handle it.
Oliver: Umm, why not me?
John Murrell: Because you'll be dead.

John Murrell: Of the few people who know what I look like, there are only two kinds. Those that are trustworthy and do what I want them to, and those that are... dead. No third kind.

Lela Russell: Dan! Dan, I love you. Always remember that.
Dan Sampson: I'm planning on making you remind me of it every day for the next hundred years.

Dan Sampson: I'd cry hard. Cry a lot of tears for what you've done. Cry for yourself.
Lela Russell: I love you, Dan.
Dan Sampson: Then cry for me.
