Martinus Van Der Brig is on the street in Cincinnati preaching the virtues of the new community that he plans to start in the west. Brother Hanlon speaks up from the crowd, saying that it's the place for him, and Martinus points to the painting of his dream community. He assures the crowd that the land is going for $1 an acre, and several people seize on the opportunity. Tekla Kronen is in the crowd and complains to her father Henning that they've been waiting days for Martinus to finish. She doesn't believe that they can trust Martinus now that he has their money...

Episode Notes
For the start of the new season, the show gets a new opening sequence--a painted image of the Enterprise--and a new theme composed by Gerald Fried, replacing Elmer Bernstein's first season theme.

The end credits have a different painted image rather than the model shot of the Enterprise sailing away.

Noah Beery is introduced without explanation or fanfare as Bill Blake, the new pilot of the Enterprise.

Episode Quotes
Tekla Kronen: Umm, I would like to know your plans.
Grey: Plans, ma'am? Well, they vary according to the drift of the current.
Tekla Kronen: I would like to know your plans about sailing.
Grey: Sailing? We sail tomorrow morning at sunup. But between now and then lies a whole evening.

Martinus Van Der Brig: I've never known a woman like you, Tekla Kronen.
Tekla Kronen: What are you selling now, Martinus Van Der Brig?
Martinus Van Der Brig: Myself.
Tekla Kronen: I have no use for such merchandise.

Tekla Kronen: Oh, those poor people. You took their money.
Martinus Van Der Brig: In exchange for hope! A home to build, land of their own!
Tekla Kronen: You believe all that, don't you?
Martinus Van Der Brig: I believe everything I say.
Tekla Kronen: You do sell a dream. I pray it will not become a nightmare.

Martinus Van Der Brig: I see we share a common insistence on the best, Captain.
Grey: You always share other people's belongings without asking their permission?
Martinus Van Der Brig: What better compliment, Captain, can one man pay the other than to feel at home in his quarters?

Martinus Van Der Brig: You're so much like me, Captain, I think you're almost my image.
Tekla Kronen: Could there really be two such people like you, Martinus?

Martinus Van Der Brig: You don't love a woman like that, Captain, you conquer her.
Grey: Conquer her? Why, you haven't learned how to lose.
Martinus Van Der Brig: Well, I never had adequate competition until you arrived.
Grey: Yeah, that's true, that's true.

Martinus Van Der Brig: Oh, that woman. Well, at least the rest of the group trusts me.
Grey: Yes, well they have to. You have all their money.

Grey: You're supposed to bring them horses, oxen, supplies.
Martinus Van Der Brig: Yes. Yes, that's true. there has been a delay.
Grey: Um-hmm.
Martinus Van Der Brig: A shortage. Not one cow in sight.
Grey: Oh?
Martinus Van Der Brig: But I assure you, Captain, that this difficulty for Martinus Van Der Brig is simply a challenge.
Grey: (punching him) Now listen to me. This is going to be a challenge. The Enterprise sails tomorrow morning. If you don't have everything onboard by then, there really will be a shortage... of Martinus Van Der Brig.

Grey: Well, what now, Martinus van Der Brig? Going to give up your 24-hour lease on the world?
Martinus Van Der Brig: No, Captain, I think I'll leave the river to you.
Grey: Why, thank you.
Martinus Van Der Brig: Not at all, Captain.
