Recap

In Memphis, Grey and Bill are standing on the street. Grey watches a young woman, Julie Lang, and her escort, dandy Alex Jeffords. As the couple cross a plank across a muddy spot of road, two local ruffians step out onto the other side and start jumping up and down. Grey bets Bill that Julie will make it but Alex doesn't. The ruffians shove Alex into the mud and Grey goes over to help Julie. He throws the two men off the plank, picks up Julie, and carries her to the boardwalk. She thanks Grey for his help and stares at him for a moment, and Bill quickly grabs his partner and ushers him back to the Enterprise. Alex comes over and suggests that Grey might want a reward. Julie figures that Grey is too uncomplicated and basic for money to interest him...

Episode Quotes
Grey: Two-to-one she makes it and the dandy doesn't.
Bill: You can't afford a bet.

Grey: Oh, Bill, you got a lot to learn about this business. Now, there are times when a man has just got to take a chance.
Bill: Yes. What makes you think that now is the time to take that chance?
Grey: Instinct! Instinct. When the chips are down, what else has a man got to go on but instinct. Instinct, nothing but instinct. Takes years to develop, years.
Bill: I forgot, he has a wonderful instinct.
Grey: Yes, sir, my instinct tell me that man has an honest face.

Bill: Well salt me for a mackerel.

Episode Goofs
Alex hides the pearl necklace in his clarinet and then plays it. That would render the instrument unplayable at worst, or noticeably different sounding at best.
