The scene opens with a man tied up and a woman crying. The culprit is walking around with a knife and the tattoo of 618MCS on his forearm. He rips off the woman’s clothes. Meanwhile Jane Rizzoli and her brother Frankie are playing basketball and he hits her in the nose. He breaks her nose by accident and she just wants to hurry up before their mother finds out. The mom enters and she complains that they are using the good towels to wipe the blood up. She tells that Detective Crow called and Jane tells that she is on call and that she needs to be alerted whenever someone calls. She calls Crow back and he says that bad things are happening and that she needs to get down there.

A doctor was murdered in West Roxbury and Dr. Isles shows up at the crime scene. Kitty, the reporter, tries to get a statement but she is not getting a response. Jane enters and tells Detective Crow that it is her case now and that he can go home. He tells that her partner Detective Barry Frost is vomiting. Detective Vince Korsak has cut his vacation short because of the seriousness of the case. As Jane enters the crime scene, Dr. Maura Isles is examining the victim, Michael Yager, and notices that Jane’s nose is broken. She pops it back into place for her. Jane surveys the crime scene and sees a teacup on the floor. Jane has a flashback of a case she was investigating a disturbance and is smacked with a board. Jane realizes that this is a copycat and that Hoyt, the original killer, has trained an apprentice.
As they are examining the body and packing things up, following the routine homicide advisory and possible kidnapping, Special Agent Gabriel Dean enters the scene and tells that the FBI is only at the crime scene to observe. Korsak finds semen on the sofa and Jane tells that it is just like what Hoyt would have done as well. Jane and Barry meet with Hoyt in prison and he tells that he has missed her smell. He tells that he wants to see her hands. Another flashback shows Rizzoli lying on the ground and Hoyt driving a nail through them. She tells that her hands are good as new. She tries to ask him questions and all he does is compliment her breast and other things. She won’t amuse him so he attempts to leave. Jane tells that she has been dreaming of her and she plays along. He tells that he does have an apprentice and that he is going to have fun with Jane. She gets a call. They found Mrs. Yager.
Rizzoli and Frost arrive at the crime scene and Rizzoli puts on lipstick. Detective Crow asks if she is wearing lipstick and she punches him. FBI agent Dean is there and they tell that she wasn’t buried because he didn’t have time. Dean asks if they checked for evidence of necrophilia and he asks for a copy of their report. Meanwhile, Hoyt is in his prison cell and he takes a pill. The officers tell that he has an hour on the yard and he starts to have a seizure. At the lab, Dean walks in and tells that Hoyt escaped custody and the video shows that he is sending a message to Jane. Barry and Franke follow Jane home and tell that they will be right outside. There is a knock on the door. It is her neighbor Marisa and she tells that law school is horrible and wanted to make sure that she was alright. There is another knock on the door and it is her mother with a pillow. She tells that her father is down there too. She tells that she is always scared for Jane and Jane tells that she is leaving.

Jane visits Maura and sees a turtle in her kitchen named Bass. She shows her to her bed and there is someone at the door. It is FBI Dean and he gives her a folder. Jane is lying down and Maura lies next to her. They talk about the fact that Maura is working on a sensitive case with Dean. The next morning, Detective Crow tells that Jane looks like she slept under an overpass. She brings coffee to Korsak and he tells that he takes 3 sugars. The semen that they found came up with no hits. Korsak apologizes to Jane about not giving her a heads up. Jane gets a call and they found another victim.
John Gant is the victim and his wife Carina is missing. There is no teacup because he was working with Hoyt this time. Jane gets a call and Barry tells that Carina’s body was discovered by a hiker hunting for arrowheads. Jane tells Maura that they are going to have to leave the body right where it is to get some surveillance on the forest and to block off their way of escaping because they are going to come back to admire their work. Later that night, Jane and Korsak are in the car like old times and are communicating with Barry on the other end of the forest. Jane feels that there is a dog in the back of the car and Korsak tells that he rescued her off the streets. He gets out to go urinate. Time goes by and Jane gets out of the car to investigate. She sees a man running through the forest and tackles him. It is Agent Dean. Jane wants to know why he is there and he tells that he was chasing Hoyt. They hear Korsak’s voice and he has been sliced in the neck by Hoyt.
Back at the office, Jane chastises Maura for telling Dean where they were at and she tells that she meant only to protect her. Dean visits Jane and she invites him in for coffee. Dean asks why Hoyt went after her. She tells that she is his type and he wants to know what happened to her hands. Another flashback and we see that she was on the ground with a knife to her throat when Korsak enters and shoots Hoyt. She tells that she doesn’t need to be babysat. In the morning at the station, Maura brings in coffee and Jane tells that her mother wants her home sleeping in the pink canopy bed. Maura tells she needs to go out of town for the other case and that both are connected. Jane storms out of the office.
She goes to the office of Dean and meets with Senator Conway. They discus that the apprentice looks like it was a Green Berea gone rouge and that he was working for the CIA. Dean hates the fact that the second killer is a soldier. Dean asks Jane to dinner but is called away for a moment. Maura calls Jane and tells that her apartment has been vandalized. She pulls up and gets a call from Dean and he tells that the Fort Stewart records pulled up a John Stark and that units are going to Stark’s place now. Jane is heading inside when she is stopped by a coroner. He tells that she needs to ID a body and that it was young female mid-twenty. Fearing it is Marisa; she climbs in the back of the van and unzips the body bag. It is Hoyt. He tases her.

As she wakes up, Hoyt is standing over Jane. She searches for things to cut through the tape and Hoyt come back. Jane lies still and her body starts to smoke. She turns around and burns Hoyt with a flare. As he is screaming in pain, she uses the stun gun and tases him. Waiting for a charge she stuns John Stark’s leg and grabs his gun before he can and shoots him. She gets up and shoots Hoyt in his hands to match with her. After the fact, Jane and Dean talk and Jane thanks him for the help. Jane enters her destroyed apartment and Korsak’s dog enters. It is Maura and she gives Jane a turtle of her very own. Maura offers to help her clean up and Jane tells that they are going to go get a Bloody Mary instead of cleaning up a crime scene. They leave and the dog feels dejected. The door opens again and Jane tells the dog to come with.
