Jane asks if Maura believes in love at first sight as they watch a couple talking to each other and she tells that people are attracted to people who think that they are attractive. Jane and Maura’s phones ring and they are not going to be able to get their run in. They go to the docks and a body is pulled out of the lake. Jane says that they can bag it up for an ID and Maura tells that it is not necessary because she already knows him. The body is Adam Fairfield and Maura was involved with his brother, Garrett years ago. Jane asks if she wants to go with her when she notifies the family. She says that she doesn’t but she will.

Jane, Barry and Maura arrive at the Fairfield’s mansion and Jane is shocked that Maura didn’t continue seeing Garrett. They go inside and they are in the preparation of the memorial. Jane is amazed at their wealth and Barry reminds them that they made their money on slaves as well but have forgotten about that part of history. Jane tells that word travels quickly. Maura goes up to Sumner and Jocelyn, Adam’s wife, and she is devastated. Sumner says that he can’t believe that Adam drowned. Maura tells that they don’t know that yet. Jane asks about the description of the boat and attempts to ask more questions, but Maura asks if it can wait. Jane tells that it can’t. Garrett sees Maura and they hug. She tells that she is sorry for his loss. Mr. Robert Culbert, the Fairfield’s attorney tells that if they have any questions, to write them down and he will respond within 24 hours. Jane tells that she doesn’t work that way. Jane goes up to Maura and tells that they need to get statements and Maura tells that she doesn’t even have a cause of death yet and that they could give the family time to grief. Barry and Jane walk out and she is upset that they have to give time. Barry is too involved looking at the cars.

Meanwhile at a bar, Jane’s mom is selling some Polynesian juice that helps with everything and Franke comes in. She continues the sales pitches and Korsak tells that she is a good saleswoman and that he already bought 2 from her. Franke goes up to his mother and asks why she is selling things and she tells that she is the new saleswoman for a product that works wonders. Franke doesn’t buy into it and she gives a bottle of it for him and Jane to try. Back at the station, Maura is examining Adam’s body and Jane enters and is upset with Maura because she didn’t back her up. Maura tells that Jane is jealous of her friends and Jane tells that she is concentrated on the work and not friends. Maura tells that she needs to rush on the autopsy for the Mayor and Jane tells that Maura needs to concentrate on the work and that she will find out on her own. Barry is looking at the suspect line-up and tells that he feels like a game of Clue. Barry tells Korsak that Maura used to date Garrett. Barry tells that Adam’s and Jocelyn’s marriage was in trouble and they find out that the youngest Sumner took over the family business 5 years and not Adam. But after a fraud incident, Adam took back the company.

Barry and Korsak visit Sumner and he is loading up a truck. He tells that he ran the company for 6 years while Adam decided that he wanted to party. After Adam sobered up, he wanted a job. Then the fraud claim happened and Adam was in charge. Barry asks if he was upset enough to kill over it. Sumner tells that Fairfield brothers don’t kill each other. He tells that he was riding his motorcycle the night of his murder and Korsak tells Barry that he wants to see a picture of Sumner on his motorcycle. Back at the station, Korsak is with Maura and she is telling that the sweater of Adams costs $1000 after Korsak asks. He is shocked and Maura tells that it is not 100% cashmere on touch. Korsak asks about the mark on Adam’s head and Maura tells that it could have been when he fell off the boat. Korsak tells that he can tell when people are not telling the whole truth and Maura admits that Jane and her had a fight. Korsak tells that he and Jane grew up differently and didn’t have a lot and Maura needs to be able to see that.

Franke enters the station and gives Jane the bottle of what their mother is selling. He asks if she can run a few test on it and make sure that she is not going to kill anyone. He tells that their mother is wearing lipstick and is nicely dressed. Jane tells it is because of the new job, but Franke thinks that she is thinking of leaving their father. Culbert enters and Jane wonders where his folders are with the request of information they sent out. He tells that the information is private. Jane asks if the Fairfield family is above the law and he tells that there is just information that can’t be released. Jane tells that she knows where Culbert comes from and he tells that his father was a garbage collector and that the Fairfield trust put him through college and through law school, gave him employment, and have helped him. He warns Jane that if she wants to keep her job, then she will keep this investigation quiet.

Barry tells that there is no alibi for any of the family and Maura tells that the cause of death was blunt trauma to the head and that she found oysters in his stomach preserved rather well. Barry does a search for fancy restaurants near the harbor and they go to it. Maura comes along for the ride and they enjoy a plate of oysters and ask the waiter to run a receipt for the dinner. Korsak teases Barry that he can’t see dead bodies but he can suck snot down. The waiter tells that a salad with dressing on the side and other food was ordered. Barry calls it chick food and Korsak wonders if there is another woman. Jane comes in and gives a peace offering of chocolate and gives Maura the juice for her to test. Maura asks if she is apology or not. Jane and Maura use Korsak to speak to each other and he tells that Jane wants Maura to use her influence to get the name of Adam’s mistress. They try to argue to have Korsak relay but he leaves. Jane tells Maura that she looked at home in the rich world and she tells that it is where she is from but chose not to stay. She tells that she wanted her life to have meaning and Jane tells that she doesn’t know what team Maura is on.

Maura visits Garrett and he tells that Maura inspired Garrett to move forward with his life. He tells that Sumner and Adam fought a lot and tells that brothers don’t kill brothers. Garret tells that he has not seen anyone seriously since her. She asks who Adam was seeing and he tells her. In his car, Maura calls Jane and tells that the girl was a Vanessa Dewall. Garrett gets back and kisses Maura. Back at the station, Korsak has Vanessa’s file and she tells that Adam was thinking of divorcing Jocelyn. This gives her motive to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars. They get a call. They found the boat. They get to the boat but the coast guard is there and they are being controlled by Fairfield’s lawyer. Jane asks if the men want kids and Maura advises that they move. They look up and get the signal to let them look. Jane and the rest look at the boat and Jane can only see signs as an accident and tells Maura that she wins and tells that the blood on the boom. But Maura tells that she would like to call it an accident but it is not. Adam was murdered.

Partial impression comes back and tells that none of the objects on boat struck Adam and there were definite signs that the impression was done by someone and not something. Jan asks Maura if she wants to go for a drink. Jane and Maura have a drink and discuss the case and Garrett. Maura tells that she loved Garrett a lot and that there are still those feelings. She tells that she got the test results back from Jane’s mom’s Polynesian juice. It is 98% water and has normal components of juice. Doesn’t hurt you and doesn’t harm you. He tells that she is going to call her brother and Maura gives Jane her invitation to the memorial service for Adam. She tells Jane that she is going to take her as her guest.

Maura and Jane go to the memorial and Jane is in a cocktail dress and complains that she has a wedgie. She takes a glass of champagne and tastes it. It is so good she has to take another. She asks Maura how much the champagne costs and she guesses it to be $100 a glass. Garrett comes up and tells that they look beautiful and tells that he is going to have to commission a painting of Adam. They get served dinner and Jane is not at all used to the mannerisms and attempts to stab the fish instead of cutting it and get the juices on her dress. After dinner, Jane and Maura walk down the hall and catch Sumner kissing Jocelyn. They attempt to question them and the lawyer gets in the way again. He admits that they are having an affair but they did not kill Adam.

Back at the station, while Adam was out sailing, Sumner and Jocelyn were in a hotel room at the Ritz. All the family has alibis except for Garrett. Barry tells that Garrett’s business was going under and that he was behind in payments. Maura tells that he arrived after the incident but Barry tells that the plane stopped in Los Angeles for 3 days before arriving in Boston. Jane tells that it takes 2-3 days to get to get from LA and Boston and back. Maura doesn’t like the fact that Garrett is a suspect. Jane meets with Maura and she tells that she missed all the signs and should have caught the signs. Adam had a hereditary disease that should have had the other brothers have it but they don’t. She tells that Adam was a half brother and so Garret said that brothers don’t kill brothers and justified the killing because Adam was only half. She knows how he pulled it off to.

Maura and Jane go to Garrett’s home and tell that Garret swam from the boat back to shore after he killed his brother. Jane tells that he hit Adam in the head, dumped his body and tossed the murder weapon in the ocean. Garrett tells Culbert to escort Jane and Maura off the property but he tells that he works for the Fairfield’s and not him. Jane and Maura go out for drinks and Jane has Maura try her beer instead of the wine and champagne that she normally has. She takes a sip and she likes it.
