Rocko's Modern Life

Rocko's Modern Life

Rocko's Modern Life follows the tale of a wallaby from Australia, named Rocko. He has recently moved from the land down under to live in the United States to escape a childhood bully. His new life in O-Town is interesting, to say the least. He meets and makes friends with Heffer Wolfe (a gluttonous steer who was adopted by a family of wolves), Filbert Shellbache (a paranoid turtle that lives in a trailer and follows one simple philosophy; turn the page, wash your hands), and his pet dog Spunky.

Other residents of O-Town include his next-door neighbors The Bigheads (Ed, the angry one and Bev, the flirtatious one), Dr. Paula Hutchison (a doctor-of-all-trades and the love interest of Filbert), The Chameleon Brothers (Chame and Leon, the entrepreneurs), and a large host of other wacky and bizarre characters. The town itself is the home of Congolm-O, a large corporation with the slogan of 'We Own You'.

Rocko's Modern Life first aired on Nickelodeon in 1993 and ran for 4 seasons, until it abruptly ended in 1996. Stephen Hillenburg (who wrote and directed many of the episodes) found success after Rocko's Modern Life, when he created SpongeBob SquarePants in 1999.

One of the best cartoons everRating: 0 likes, 1 dislikes

This was an absolutely fantastic show, and one of the best cartoon series ever made. Why? Because one, it doesn't take kids for stupid, and two, it relates to the real world somewhat. I remember a time when most cartoon shows would be like this. Whether they are more firmly rooted in reality, such as Hey, Arnold! or Doug, classics like Tom & Jerry or the Looney Tunes, even out-there fantasy shows like TaleSpin, Ren and Stimpy, Pinky & the Brain, or the superhero shows I personally never really watched—they're so relatable because they are, however slightly, rooted in a universe with some parallels to real life. When I watch cartoons today, time seems to be mostly divided between thinly-disguised extra-long adverts for Japanese toys, or shows that just try to "out-crazy" each other with seizures of colour and effects and exaggerations without substance, all characters constantly screaming in the most annoying voice they could come up with, and stupid if at all existent plots.
