Fresh Paint - Recap

In this premier episode of Rookie Blue we meet rookie cops that have just officially entered into the force. We meet Andy (Missy Peregrym), Dov (Gregory Smith), and Traci (Enuka Okuma). Andy just so happens to be the daughter an ex-cop that had some pretty shady things going on with his job. Andy is trying hard to build herself up and earn her respect by doing it herself and just break away from what had happened with her father. She and all of the other rookies are going to be having some hard times getting used their position and how to handle all of the tragedies along the way.

In the opening, the rookies are all celebrating because they have finally made it into the police force. They are all trying to get out of handcuffs so they can get free drinks. They have a great night partying and are excited about starting their new careers. One of the new cops (Traci) is already dating a detective. They are told that everything that they learned during training really doesn't matter until they get out on the street.

Chris Diaz is excited, but gets an officer to train him that is not into the whole brotherhood thing which kind of bothers him. Traci gets a female officer to train her on the job. Andy gets a tough cop that tells her the basics immediately. He tells her that she needs not embarrass him and then they have to go deal with a call. They get to where they need to go and a woman and her child comes out saying she called the cops fifteen minutes ago. She says there was a lot of arguing and it sounds pretty bad. The little girl asks if she can play with Andy's gun and then they hear gunshots in the building. They called for back up before getting into the house and they are walking up the steps. They get into the apartment and a woman is sitting on the floor and she says that they are all gone. A little girl is passed out on the floor and it seems she has OD'd. Her trainer says he wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole and that they should wait until the EMT's get there. Despite that, Andy decides to give her mouth to mouth and CPR.

The other rookies are at the prescient and one of them (Epstein) asks if he can bring his gun home. He has to fill something out and then maybe. Another female cop (Peck) is asked to search a woman who is actually not a woman. She was caught stealing drugs and she is a transgendered woman. They fight over how they are supposed to search her/him. Epstein has to search her instead. Diaz and Traci get there for back up and they have to go search for the shooter seeing if he is still in the building. Andy catches the drug dealers but they basically read that she is a rookie. She almost gets hit by a car that is driven by a homicide detective. Traci has been left by herself on Andy's pursuit and she finds a little boy hiding in the closet.

Andy is still searching and she needs back up. One runs and she tackles him. The guy tells her that she doesn't want to do this. She seems to be an undercover cop, along with the other man. She is cocky and happy that she got the "suspects". The training officer has come up and she tells him that he made the arrests and he is shocked that she did, but then decides to go have something to eat.

Traci decides that the little boy found probably doesn't live there. He tells her he was playing a game until "he" comes and finds him. He doesn't want to tell him. The woman that was in the room describes the guy that was in the room. Andy's training officer takes the one guy and tries to get him into a holding cell. The detective comes in and hugs the undercover. Then they figure it all out, the other guy that he was "working with" finds out that he is a co'dp after having worked with him for eight months completely blowing the case because that particular guy is a total big mouth. The undercover is upset at her for ruining his case and leaves due to her having blown his cover.

Epstein is amusing the boy and Traci is working on finding an address for a guy named Joe. The witness needs to be searched and Traci says she is too busy because she is working on getting the number. Andy goes in and sees the undercover kicking the row of lockers. She asks him if he is having fun and he isn't, of course. She tells him to console himself, because she will more than likely be fired due to this. She tells him to be a cop for five minutes. She asks him what he knows. They ask her about the kid in the orange t-shirt. He saw him running and hid a gun in an empty house.

The father of the son comes back and he tells them that he was with a sitter. The officer thinks he may have been using and left him in a closet. She asks him how long he has been using and wonders how he left the kid alone. He tells her that he didn't leave him, he went back three times but couldn't get him because the place was closed off.

The officers are back at the crime scene and Andy tells the homicide detective about what the undercover told him. The homicide detective's name is Luke Callahan. She is flustered and finds him attractive, that is pretty clear. She goes to look into the abandon house and the kid with the orange shirt catches her off guard because she has hurt herself by putting her hand in glass. He holds a gun to her and tells her not to move. The kid has her put her cuffs on and has her at gun point. She asks him why he shot the guy in the other room. She tells him everything that was going on in the room where the guy was shot. He asks what happened to the girl and she told him that she didn't die. She tells him that she can help him. She got the cuffs off and tells him to put the gun down and begs him not to make her shoot him because it is her first day and she can help him. He tells her that his sister is 15 and she is the girl that was inside.

He kept asking what she took and the guy was laughing at it. The guy said that it was the girl's fault and left her there like a piece of garbage. She arrests him while he is crying and she apologizes but she has to do it. She takes him out and brings him to the car. The training officer is proud of her for getting him, but she looks like she is about to cry.

Back at the station, the training officer of Andy tells her that the boy's sister was okay. He then asks about her father and tells her that he was his training officer. The rookies meet up after their day. Andy meets up with the undercover officer and thanks him for the tip. She asks if she can buy him a drink. He tells her that he worked on eight months to get Anton Hill--a drug dealer and rapist--taken down. He's not happy about it. They all end proud of their first day on the force. Traci heads to her home and meets up with her son. Andy goes over and finds her dad and tells him about her day. He asks how it was and she says it was good but she really meant terrible. He tells her that she is going to be fine because she is the real deal "unlike him" and he hands her his badge and he was saving it for her. He tells her that she is going to be great.
