Some Pig - Recap

Evan wakes up in bed with two large dogs crowding him. Paige comes in and tries to get him to arise and go to work. The couple are alone in the Collins estate while Paige's parents are away for a week and have been enjoying playing house. They talk about the dogs and the conversation shifts to having children and both seem excited about the prospect. Finally Paige promises to make Evan his favorite sandwich if he will get up, peanut butter and banana.


Evan arrives home and learns from Hank that Divya was responsible for Kassabian's medical problems when she gave him the wrong medication while working at Hamptons Heritage. Evan is surprised and wants to know why she was working there. Hank says they did not discuss it so Evan proposes talking it over at their staff meeting. Hank disagrees and does not want to discuss it when Jill arrives. She says Divya will be late as she is stopping to see a patient on her way in. Hank is alarmed and decides to join her.

Hank arrives at the address where the patient is supposed to be and finds an outdoor rock concert in progress. Divya is surprised to see him and says the patient is the lead singer of the band Some Pig, and he has been complaining of leg weakness, but seems fine on stage. Divya tries to talk about her mistake but Hank says it was not on HankMed time so it doesn't fall under his purview. At the end of the song, the lead singer tries an acrobatic slide across the stage and ends up falling off the stage in pain.

Hank questions the lead singer Jared about his leg weakness. He was fine until he tried his slide and he says he needs to be a showman to gain attention and become stars. His legs have been weak and painful lately and his band mates have been trying to get him to focus on his music and not the aerobatics. His only injury is a cut on his face where a ring piercing was torn loose so Hank proposes suturing the wound. Divya prepares to do that but Hank intervenes and asks her to take his medical history while he does the sutures. Hank's advice is to avoid the stage antics until he gets the blood samples analyzed. While they are leaving, Divya suggest she and Hank split their patient load but Hank prefers they work together, troubling Divya.

Hank was practicing golf with Jack O'Malley and the talk drifted to Jack's physical condition. Jack admitted he has had more soreness and stiffness and had lost some weight, but countered with the fact that he has been playing well, making more tournament cuts and been playing many more rounds of golf. When asked about skin rashes, he answered definitely no.


At the Collins' house, Evan comes out of the shower and notices a rash on his chest when he looks in the mirror. Paige enters and he hides it from her and leaves quickly. He catches up with Hank who is running on the beach and shows it to Hank. Hank is not concerned, saying he normally gets hives when he is under stress. Evan doesn't want to think that his engagement is causing him stress but Hank says not to worry.

Divya arrives at the Lawson home as Hank is hanging up the phone. She has the results of Jared's lab tests and concludes he has a specific disease that can lead to paralysis. Hank disagrees saying that disease is not contagious and he just learned a second band member is experiencing the same symptoms.

The second band member turns out to be Calliope, and it is revealed that she and Jared are sleeping together, a fact that upsets the other band members. Hank says they aren't sure the symptoms are sexually transmitted and proposes physical exams for both. The surface exam reveals nothing so Hank does a spinal tap to search for latent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). As they are leaving, Divya proposes having Jared and Calliope undergo MRIs to search for spinal tumors that may account for the leg weakness. Hank scoffs at the concept of matching tumors in two different patients and accuses Divya of over compensating by suggesting unnecessary tests.

Jill runs into Jack at a coffee shop. He asks if she would like to play a round of golf the following day on a very exclusive course. She refuses at first then give in, with the understanding that it is just golf and not a date. As Jack turns to leave, Jill notices a rash on his neck that he says is just sunburn.

Evan arrives back at the Collins home where Paige awaits like a subservient housewife from the 1950s, complete with martini ready for her man. She is uncertain at his reaction and says she went overboard about their future and potential family but he says it is fine. As she turns away he frantically scratches at the hives through his shirt. She proposes a massage but he doesn't want to remove his shirt and give away his condition and proposes he massage her instead.


Hank arrives home to see Divya using a sonogram on Jared's abdomen. Both he and Calliope are complaining of stomach pain and have urine retention requiring catheterization. She also reiterates they both need MRI's and Hank agrees. He gets a text message and says he will meet her at the hospital.

Hank stops by the country club to speak with Jack. Jack's lab tests indicate he has lupus, an incurable disease but one that can be managed.

Jared and Calliope's MRIs reveal inflammation across both their spines. Hank is unsure what is causing it but will start treating the inflammation with steroids.

Evan wakes in bed with the dogs again and calls for Paige. She is upset with a lesion on her face. They go see Hank and he suggests it might be from what are called kissing bugs. He then tells Evan they also might account for his outbreak of hives, which takes Paige by surprise as he has been keeping that information from her.

Jill finds a despondent Jack at the bar instead of waiting for her at the first tee. She wonders what is wrong and he talks about his lucky year that has come to an end, but can't quite tell her he has lupus. She tells him not everyone gets to have even one lucky year, and that there is always obstacles in life to fight and overcome. This cheers him and they head for the course.


The next day, Hank and Divya stop by Jared and Calliope's hospital room where they find band mate Todd asleep in the chair. He is concerned for them and Hank tells him they are still looking for the main cause. Todd tries to get up to leave but collapses to the floor with intense leg pain.

Hank and Divya head to the estate that the band has been staying at to speak with the fourth band member Home. They find him lying on the floor and think he too has the same problem until he jumps up, just fine. Hank asks if he knows of anything the others have done that he hasn't and he can only think of his being a vegan. He then shows Hank the video where one scene has the three sick band members playing in a pork processing plant where Hank refused to go. Divya immediately thinks of trichinosis and rushes out to initiate a test. Hank stops her and says she is jumping to conclusions to save the day. They argue and Homer intercedes, saying from their arguments that the two of them must be good friends.


Suddenly Hank notices on the video that there are workers in the plant behind the band, all wearing masks while the band pretends to play while not wearing masks. The workers are using compressed air to remove the pig's brains from the skulls and some of the brain particles are airborne and could be causing an auto immune response after ingestion.

Evan and Paige retrieve their dogs from the groomers. Evan is upbeat and says they have the kissing bugs taken care of but Paige is still a little morose. She finally confesses to being a little freaked out about their future together, saying she has never had to think in those terms before, with having to take care of her mother and be there for her father. Evan says it is okay, that she can tell him anything and he will help her overcome her fears.

Hank returns home where Divya has been working with Jack on a full medical history in preparation for their long term treatment of his lupus. Jack is upbeat and Divya said she took another urine sample to double check his results. Jack leaves and Divya reads a test result that indicates Jack's lupus is developing faster than they thought and is in the process of attacking his kidneys.

Evan and Divya arrive at a concert that the band is preparing for. Evan asks Divya if she and Hank have made up and she says yes. He then asks if she still has financial problems and before she can answer, the band spots her in the crowd and invite them backstage. All of the band members are responding well to the treatment and their band is going to be heading out on tour as a warmup act for a famous band.

Hank stops by the golf course where Jack is giving a lesson. He breaks the bad news to Jack as the episode ends.
