In episode 3x15, Hank And The Deep Blue Sea, Jill accompanied Jack on a fishing trip unaware he was skipping the necessary medical treatments for lupus.

This episode portrays Hank's intense need to be in control of every situation. He had stepped down as Jack's doctor to be his friend and Jack died. Hank feels intense guilt over this and is taking it out on others, including the Sesumi boys and especially Evan when Evan dares to not consult him about the smart shirts. Evan alludes to similar behavior when their mother died and Hank stopped being a child to take responsibility and control.
