After Paul Rader is framed for murder, the Rader family spends three and a half weeks on the run living from hotel to hotel eating fast food, ultimately moving to a small Iowa town. When they finally arrive in town, they take on different names and tell everyone that they are victims of Hurricane Katrina and that this is their fourth move since the hurricane. They also claim that their last stay was in Philadelphia before moving again. After moving in, Paul gets a job at the local coffee shop because it has a wireless signal for his PDA, which he can use prove his innocence, and Henry, the oldest son, gets the family in a bit of trouble when it is discovered that he has been keeping contact with his girlfriend from back home.
Paul makes contact with Tannen, the man who sent him the text message, and goes to Chicago to meet him. Hannah is asked to bring vodka to a party, and she asks Henry to get it for her. Henry is arrested after being caught buying the vodka with a fake ID. Tommy is in the spelling bee.
Paul heads to Washington to further investigate the key that Tannen gave him. Henry looks into getting fake IDs for the family.
To help Brady be eligible for the upcoming homecoming football game, Hannah swaps one of his English papers for one of her old ones. However, Hannah's plan backfires when Brady is accused of plagiarism.
Gina tells Paul and Lily that she's hiding from her abusive ex. Meanwhile, Henry begins to warm up to Randy, but his trust is short-lived when Randy puts Henry and Jake in danger. Elsewhere, Hannah and Amber go to a frat party.
