Final: Movie -- Samurai X: The Motion Picture (Dec/20/1997) [Special Runtime: 90 Min.]

Himura Kenshin is a protector who goes around to get forgiveness for his sins. He arrives in Tokyo where he meets Kamilya Kaoru, a woman who is in a fight with a murderer. He helps her. Kaoru finds out that Kenshin is an assassin, but she gives him shelter because she knows he is not a killer like he is made to be. Along the way, he befriends Sagara Sanosuke (an ex-Sekihō Army member), Myōjin Yahiko (an orphan) and a doctor named Takani Megumi.

Together they get through a vast amount of enemies along the way to bringing peace to their town. One of the enemies in particular is the former leader of the Oniwabanshū, Shinomori Aoshi. When someone close to Kenshin's heart is killed, he seeks revenge to any, if not all people who've had a hand in her demise.

Rurouni Kenshin has a great storyline, characters development and above all, incredible sword fights. The combat sequences remain one of the best depictions of samurai fight ever in an anime, especially the duel between Kenshin and Shishio Makoto. But don't be fool; this anime is quite funny too, even in its serious atmosphere. The songs in the anime such as Hearts of Sword by T.M. Revolution, Tactics by Yellow Monkey and 4th Avenue Cafe by L'arc en Ciel will always be my favorite anime songs. However, the show begins to go downhill, once the Kyoto arc ends. The rest of the show is kind of a letdown since those episodes are not from the manga. Without reading the manga, you'll finish the series with a sense of it being incomplete. Read more
