In Washington, DC, former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill leaves the Department of Justice and tells her superiors that she is still busy answering Congressmen's questions. Maria is well aware that several American agents are watching her, but realizes that the one behind her has disappeared... and that the other surveillance agents are dead. She takes off into an alley and finds Melinda waiting for her. Maria says that she's going to work with Stark and they're privatizing global security. Melinda asks Maria to help Coulson and admits that he won't take it from her anymore. Maria asks how much Coulson knows about TAHITI and Melinda wants to know if Alexander Pierce--a HYDRA infiltrator--was the one who ordered Fury to use alien technology on Coulson and rewrite his memories. Maria says that Fury buried the intel about who ordered him to resurrect Coulson, and claims that Fury is dead. The police pull up and order Maria to drop her weapons.
