Dr. Will Zimmerman, played by Robin Dunne

Dr. Will Zimmerman (ROBIN DUNNE) is a brilliant forensic psychiatrist who gained stature while working with the Federal authorities. A master of behavioral science, he can translate the most veiled human signals into case-breaking deductions. Problem is, no one believes him. His fascination with alternative and otherworldly explanations for horrific crimes has cost him the respect of his peers - and his job.

He is recognized as a good man with an inarguable talent for psychiatry and analysis. However, his inability to submit to the status quo of crime investigation has resulted in demotions and a mundane affiliation with Homicide in Old City.

Swift with a clever quip, usually in an effort to redirect an awkward situation, Will is instantly likable. Upon joining Magnus in her work at the Sanctuary, Will discovers a new and strange world that is both logically unbelievable yet intuitively plausible to him. While ahead of his time, and at least partially open to the world of ‘abnormals’, he reacts to the unusual and fantastical in a way we can all understand.

The team quickly learns that Will is less than comfortable with a gun, but Magnus is certain his instinct and genuine thirst to know the truth will prove invaluable in her fascinating work.
Ashley Magnus [Seasons 1-2, Episode 3], played by Emilie Ullerup

Ashley (EMILIE ULLERUP) is yin to Will's yang in the Sanctuary's dual agenda of "preserve and protect." Arrestingly beautiful, she is tough as nails, physically adept and a skilled fighter making her perfectly suited to her calling as monster-hunter supreme. Ashley has moments of vulnerability but it’s a side she deftly covers with a veneer of bravado and fearlessness.

Growing up in the world of the Sanctuary with her mother, Dr. Helen Magnus, she has come to accept the impossible as a matter of course. And while there are the usual generational sparks between mother and daughter, Ashley is acutely respectful of her mother’s work and knowledge.
Henry Foss, played by Ryan Robbins

One of Magnus’s employees at the Sanctuary, Henry (RYAN ROBBINS) is an uber-geek of the cool variety, a weapons designer and computer expert. His skill and intelligence with all things technical keep the Sanctuary at maximum security…most of the time.

Not one to be shy, Henry doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind and always has a witty remark at the ready for anyone who will listen. He is smart-mouthed, sarcastic, and undeniably brilliant. But like most residents of the Sanctuary, there is more to Henry than meets the eye.
John Druitt / Bigfoot, played by Christopher Heyerdahl

Bigfoot is... well, Bigfoot. He is the quintessential monster of our time. After being rescued by Magnus and brought to the Sanctuary, he simply decides he doesn’t want to leave. Unable to convince him he is free to go, Magnus decides to hire him as part of her staff.

He has extraordinary strength and loyalty, as well as a profound understanding of other ‘abnormals’ who live among them. Although sensitive and quite harmless to his colleagues and friends, Bigfoot’s appearance alone can make him completely unnerving…especially to Will.
Helen Magnus, played by Amanda Tapping

Dr. Helen Magnus is a 157-year old physician on a mission to finish her father's work unlocking the secrets behind human evolution using a combination of science, medicine and her own vast knowledge of the supernatural. Dr. Magnus had a relationship with a time-traveling murderer that resulted in the birth of their child, Ashley.
Kate Freelander [Season 2, episode 3 onward, recurring previously)], played by Agam Darshi

Living life on her own she quickly realized she had a talent for dealing in abnormal-related goods/life-forms/technology and selling them to the highest bidder. Though she is loyal to her insatiable profit margin first and and foremost, Kate possesses a soul that isn't entirely consumed with greed. She has morals and empathy (deeply guarded and hidden as they are). In fact she'll be damned if she'll let people see her softer side. Think of her as Han Solo before he fell for Princess Leia. Life's all about money to her. She's a smuggler, a thief, a con artist, a swindler, yes. But her secret is that she's also desperately in need of a home, a sense of belonging. She's tired of just getting by, of not mattering to anyone. Of living by her wits. But trust is not an emotion Kate embraces easily. It'll take time, but she can and will embrace her inner hero. Until then, she's loyal to only to herself and her desire to fatten her bank account.

Kate is a skilled fighter, good with weapons, and has a gift for persuasion. As she's been trading on her knowledge of the abnormal world for many years now, she is rarely fazed by the many strange and terrible creatures that populate the abnormal world. To her, they're just product to be bought and sold on the open market. Only once she becomes part of the Sanctuary Project does Kate begin to see the depth and beauty of abnormals. From there, her transformation from thief to hero will have begun.
