Will, Kate and Helen Magnus, the investigative team, stood waiting outside a small town bank. When the bank door was opened by George, a bald male bank clerk, Helen asked to open a bank safe deposit box whilst Will and Kate milled about the lobby, trying to look busy. Led downstairs by a female clerk, then left alone, Helen managed to open, with Henry Magnus' remote help via cell phone, a certain box there. It proved to be empty of the object Helen and the team were searching for, but it contained bits of broken egg shell and clear slime. A hole made in the bottom of the metal box led to a hole in the wall, slime making a trail across the floor and wall. Helen told Henry that "it" was missing and that she was afraid for the people in the bank.
The team was searching for a contraband egg that had been stolen and stashed in the now empty safe deposit box to be saved until such time it could be sold to the highest bidder on the black market. It was thought to be an ancient work of art, the thieves not knowing that an alien parasite from outer space lay within. The parasite was now an embryo looking for a human host which it would find and after about an hour of incubation, would explode from its victim and seek an exit to continue its life cycle in another habitat. The danger lay in any nearby humans being selected by the parasite which could possibly result in the victim's death when the cycle was completed. The team would have to move fast to find that victim.
Several bank patrons and employees were upstairs being taken "hostage" by Kate and Will with Helen as their "ringleader". Henry stood by as remote electronic and computer aide in a nearby van. Guns were drawn but empty, unknown to the hostages, as George, the bald bank clerk, pushed a secret silent alarm button which would summon the local police and FBI agency. Kate mentioned to her team mates that it would take all of five minutes for the local police to respond and that they had better get cracking on locating which one of the bank people was the parasite's host, but how to do that? Henry Magnus suggested a retinal scan, was there one around the bank? Bridget, an Asian woman, seemed agitated, running a high fever, sick to her stomach. Helen said that a high fever was possibly a sign of the parasite invading her body and that she needed to be isolated from the rest of the group. Bridget was isolated in another room, a retina scan given, her vital signs taken and she was cleared, proven to be pregnant, nothing more. The air conditioning was turned up to the maximum in order to slow the process of the parasite's incubation period. The hostages complained bitterly about the cold, one asking bitterly if they were trying to freeze them to death? Grace, an old woman, seemed very sick, one male bank patron taking her under his wing and looking after her. He was another suspected parasite host because he was very calm and it was known well to the team that a calm host was needed to finish the incubation period in a timely fashion. He was given a retinal scan but proved to be clean. He asked angrily what was going on and received no answer.
The local police force was negotiating with Kate meanwhile as she played them for fools until the local FBI agency got in on the act. She cheekily demanded a helicopter and finished up with tickets to a popular band's concert. The police kept calling her until the power and phone was shut off in an effort to drive out the hostages. Several hostages were released, Bridget first, and questioned quite closely as to what the hostages had for firepower, etc.
One of the team found a tracking device and a containment capsule, deciding that those items were being used to capture the parasite, thus proving their theory that there was a black market entrepenure after the parasite. The only two hostages left in the bank now were George, the bald bank clerk and a young man. They were both given retina scans, coming up clean. The young man drew a gun and took George hostage. The team tried to get him to release George who belched green gas which the team recognized as eruption gases, meaning the parasite was getting ready to leave its host soon. The young man told the team about his plan to capture the parasite and sell it to the highest bidder if his plan went through. He made Helen talk about their plan to escape the bank via a panel in the elevator shaft which led to the basement in the next building and subsequently the sewer. The young man made the team and George go to the vault where he locked them in and waited for the parasite to emerge. Meanwhile, Henry Magnus, who had been flushed from his van, was carrying out the plan to rescue the team from the vault and escape via another secret route unknown to the young hostage taker.
The parasite emerged from George's mouth amidst lots of green vapor and jumped toward Kate who was able to deflect it to a nearby wall. Will and Helen captured it and waited for Henry who tore a wall down and the team and George were able to escape. When the young man opened the vault door, he was angered and shocked to find all gone. Cutting his losses, he packed up his gear and escaped the bank from the panel in the elevator, climbing out into the alley for the police to surround and capture him, much to his chagrin.
The parasite was safely put into a metal box and it was discussed as to what to do with it. Kate, Will, Henry and Helen were happy that it was now not able to wreak havoc any more.
