Kate is teasing Helen about being at Normandy. Helen ignores her and
asks if she has the weapons inventory Helen requested a week ago: Does
she have it? Kate says yes. Rather, she says she's on it. She further
amends that she knows she asked for the job, and she will get it done.
Helen responds that Henry can do it if Kate is too busy. As she walks
away, Henry tells Kate he won the bet, and she needs to pay up. Helen
didn't walk far. She reprimands them for going through her personal
belongings. Kate apologizes and asks again. Helen says "to be honest -"
and she is cut off by a beeping that they all rush over to. Henry gets
there first. It's an environmental breach, level 4. Helen barks orders
to evacuate immediately.
Kate locks down section 4 and asks Henry where Will is. He's evacuating
the north wing. They don't know what caused it, but Henry is running a
systems scan so they should have results within the hour.
Big is loading up the truck for transportation in honor of the
evacuation. Helen will notify them as soon as she knows anything more
specific about the breach. Since Kate is sort of new to the team, she
asks Will if anything like this has ever happened before. Yes, but never
in a whole section. They discuss how such a thing could possibly have
happened. Will thinks it's possible that one of the abnormals released a
toxin or something. As they chat, they narrowly avert an accident - only
it's no accident. The vehicle cut them off, and four armed men jump out.
They disarm Will. When he attempts to speak, he is knocked unconscious.
They remove the contents of the truck. They start to, but Kate attacks
one, knocking him out and grabbing his gun. She knocks out a second
before she is herself knocked out. A wave of purple comes from one of
the destroyed carriers, and engulfs Kate. It's Walt's old super power
suit. She stands up, wearing a mask. They tase her, then place her in
their trunk.
Helen and Henry question Will. There's no sign of Kate. Henry discovers
nothing is missing except Walter's suit. The only reason the suit was
out there is because of the evacuation. The whole thing was planned and
flawlessly executed. How did anybody else know about it? They find that
Walter was making a movie about the suit. They go to confront him about
what transpired. Helen asked who he told about Sanctuary. More
specifically, about the suit. He swears he never said anything to
anybody, but he remembers flirting with a beautiful woman, and he told
her. He really, really thought she was from the studio, and he never saw
her again. He really screwed up.
Kate's in four point metal restraints, reinforced titanium alloy.
Whoever is talking to her tells her she's in no danger. He injects her
with something under the chin. He then tells her she'll feel a slight
pinch between the eyes. Whatever makes Kate, Kate doesn't seem to exist
any longer.
Inverset Inc is the company behind the breach. Helen knows the founder,
Kenneth St. Pierre. They need more info before Helen can see about
pulling some strings.
The doctor who was working on Kate, Ray, tells Virgil St. Pierre that
things are progressing nicely. St. Pierre begs to differ. The suit's
natural resistance is fighting them. He needs the suit harvested now,
before the board of directors meet tomorrow. He wants her out of that
suit in one hour. He is to do whatever it takes; just get it done.
Ray apologizes to Kate before he throws the machine into overdrive. Kate
shrieks in pain.
Walter and Henry chat. Henry wants to know why Walter quit speaking to
him completely. He says he's been very busy. The movie. He should get
Henry a copy of the script. Henry says he already read it. Internet.
Walter asks what he thought of it and Henry says sorry. He's a little
busy right now. Walter doesn't give up, so Henry tells him the truth. He
didn't think it rang true. Example? Why did he make Stanley rich and
successful? Walter says the studio was going for a bad man vibe. Henry
understands, but goes on with more. The character representing Walter is
dating a 22 year-old named Sunset Gold? Seriously?? Walter goes off on
Henry, and ends up calling him a fanboy living in his mom's basement,
whining because the comic book is so much better. He realizes what he
just did and attempts to apologize, but Henry tells him it's fine.
Whatever Walter is doing is obviously working for him. It's fine. Henry
then finds Virgil St. Pierre and goes to report what he's discovered.
Will brings the new information to Helen. Virgil is her old friend's
grandson. Will tells her that Virgil has been very busy these days. She
asks how he's mixed up in all this? Will couldn't find anything linking
Inverset to the attacks, but. He did find a series of payments they made
to an outside research company called Vorotek. They are completely
private, way off book and involved in some seriously experimental
things. Helen calls it a "skunkworks operation." Will says she gets
first prize if she can guess who their CEO is. So he used his connection
with Inverset to set off their environmental alarms.
Henry wants to fill Helen in, but at his own speed. However that is not
an option. Walter keeps cutting him off, while Helen supplies the
missing bits. They find a place that had a 400% energy spike, and that's
where they are headed. Walter is all excited to find they are working
together again. Helen tells him they're not. He's staying here, and they
will see him when they get back. Maybe he can write another comic book
while they're gone.
Virgil is hovering over Kate. He comments that this is painful, and for
a split second it seems he's referencing Kate's discomfiture. But no -
the waiting is painful. Can't Ray speed it up? And give Kate something
to calm her down, she's starting to freak Virgil out. Ray can't, it
would interfere with the dopamine drugs. There's a power surge, and Kate
screams. Her eyes are wide and fixed. The machine appears to have been
shorted out, and he can't do anything with it. He turns around, and Kate
is off the table. She greets Ray, "Hi, Handsome." and throws him across
the office.
Big contacts Helen. As they pull up, the three of them see Kate come out
the back. Helen is happy to see her, but Kate laughs evilly and throws a
dumpster at them. She indicates the suit and says "Sweet!" before she
spider runs up the side of the building. She flashes a smile before
disappearing from sight. Henry asks how she wound up with the suit, and
Helen thinks the suit was probably looking for safe harbor, so it went
with someone it already knew.
The back doors open and the thugs come flying out, led by Virgil. He
greets Magnus. He'd really hoped they wouldn't run into each other. She
confronts him over the breach. He says he was just doing what he had to
do to get his suit back. His suit, made in his lab by his scientists
using his money. Well. Not technically his money, which is why he has to
get the suit back. He knows where Walter found the suit, but it's not
where the suit was made. Virgil was working on a bullet-proof suit using
a species of telepathic bacteria. Then, there was a "little incident",
and the suit ran away. That brings them up to the current state of
events, except the bit how it wound up on Kate.
Big takes a call from Magnus to find Kate. They're all busy. Walter wants
to help, but Big doesn't want to hear it. He feels Walter has done
enough. Walter pushes. He wants to help. He'll apply for a job with the
team. Anything. Big says anything? Yes. Then stay out of our way.
Dr. Ray is filling Helen, Will and Henry in on the power surge that
freed Kate. So she has no inhibitors now. Whatever crosses her mind, she
will do. That could get weird. The machine was remapping Kate's neuro
pathways. Unless the damage is undone, the brain will pick up where the
machine left off. Potentially, Kate could suffer an aneurysm. They need
to get the suit off of Kate before it kills her. Magnus has an idea.
Kate walks into a gang hangout. Some guy that did her wrong a very long
time ago is her goal. He stole her money and hung her out to dry. He
accuses her of holding a grudge. No, silly; she just wants an apology.
He doesn't know what she's on, but she made a big mistake coming there.
He told her he'd kill her if he ever saw her again. He sends his thugs
after her, and she takes them all out. Now she's ready to settle the
score. He starts trying to sweet talk her, but she wants him to
apologize. Like he means it. He tries again. She accepts, and tells him
if she ever sees him again, she'll kill him.
Big finds a radiation generator that the suit will respond to. Now all
they need to do is get within three blocks of Kate, and the generator
will have an affect on the suit. Helen fears that the sonic impulse will
adversely affect Kate. They need to get the suit to transfer itself to
Walter. He's the logical choice, since the suit already knows him. Will
wonders if Kate will be an active participant in the removal of the
suit, but Magnus doesn't think so. She hopes that the possibility of
being reunited with Walter will be enough initiative for the suit.
Calls are coming in from Kate's warehouse brawl. They grab the generator
and head out. The pulse is sent, and Kate responds. Walter greets her,
and Kate remembers him. The suit responds, but senses he's changed and
returns to Kate, who then escapes. Virgil gives them grief for losing
her. He's invested in his suit, Magnus is invested in Kate. Henry asks
Walter what happened. He doesn't know, he wonders why it slipped away.
He thinks the suit doesn't like him anymore. They used to be friends,
and partners. Magnus approaches and thanks Walter for trying, but
they're going to proceed to Plan B, and it doesn't include Walter. She
thanks him again, honestly; but they have it from here.
As they drive off, Walter checks his messages. They're all meaningless
to him. He spikes his cell and tries to calm down. As he turns to leave,
he overhears Virgil and his head goon threatening the team. Even if
Magnus gets his hands on the suit, she won't turn it over. He gives his
goon a giant weapon that will instantly kill the micro-abnormals that
make up the suit. There is no board meeting. He sold the suit to the
Russian mob. The only thing worse than not giving them what they paid
for is letting it fall into somebody else's hands. If they can't get
their hands on the suit, then the suit shall be destroyed. Walter wants
to call and warn the team, but he destroyed his phone.
The team is looking for Kate. Henry asks Kate to come out, and he
promises he won't comment on how hot she looks. She disarms and lands
behind him before he knows what happens. She kisses him before putting
him under. She takes down Big without breaking a sweat. Kate notices
blood coming from her eye.
Walter is on foot, trying to find a pay phone, which he does. It's dead.
Will gets eyes on Kate, but she hears the shot and dodges it, smiling.
He fills in Magnus, who is overheard by lead goon. Kate takes out Will,
then approaches Helen. Kate tells her this suit is the best thing that's
ever happened to her, and they aren't taking it away from her. Her hand
goes to Helen's throat as the lead goon locks sights on her. He can't
get a clear shot at the suit, because Helen is in the way. When he does
shoot at Kate, Walter throws his body in the way. When he goes down,
Helen shoots the goon. Helen tells Kate to give the suit up. If Walter
doesn't get it, he will die. The suit chooses to leave Kate and save
Walter. Helen covers Kate with her coat.
Virgil shows up, and tells Walter to come with him. If he does so, the
team won't get hurt. Walter asks Helen if she trusts him, and she
responds "implicitly". Walter tells Virgil no. Virgil says Walter should
know that since Virgil is actually the designer of the suit, he realizes
Walter took some real liberties with the script. Walter is not a hero,
he never was. He's a spineless insurance adjuster. In a flash, Walter
disarms everybody and lands back with Helen. He's a bit upset, because
he forgot the catch phrase. Helen says it's better without it.
She approaches Virgil and tells him he is a disgrace to his
grandfather's memories. He tells her he'll buy the suit from her. She
continues as though he hadn't spoken, and informs him that she's become
aware of his recent activities. They have a mutual friend. Said friend
is the purchaser of the suit. As a favor, Helen can keep the suit
provided Virgil pays him back in full and stays the hell out of his way.
Same goes for her. Virgil scurries off, relieved to have escaped with
his life.
Helen tells Walter they need to get Kate back to the lab as quickly as
possible. He volunteers, brings Kate to Helen, and flies away to return
her to the lab.
Kate says everybody is still mad at her, but Helen says they'll get over
it. Kate is just happy to be home.
Walter doesn't want to go back to work on his movie. It's a piece of
crap. They own the rights, they can do whatever they want to do. Hank
asks him what the adjuster would do. Walter goes back to work and starts
shooting the movie his way, as the director.
