Episode Notes
Pryor agreed to host the show only if musician Gil-Scott Heron, actor Thalmus Rasulala and Pryor's ex-wife Shelley could perform on the show. Flying back to New York, a frustrated Lorne Michaels said "He better be funny."

This episode was put on a seven-second delay due to Richard Pryor's notoriety for using obscene language in his comedy acts. The seven-second delay would be used in two later episodes hosted by raunchy comedians: Sam Kinison and Andrew "Dice" Clay.
