Tonight's host is stand up comedian Richard Pryor. Musical Guests are Gil-Scott Heron and actor Thalamamus Rasulala.
Sketches: "The Clumsy Waiters," "Samurai Hotel," "Looks At Books," "New Dad," "Police Line-Ups," "Racist Word Association," "Pong" (film), "When White Family Members Turn Black," "Spud Beer," "Early Suicide Pill," "Ploobis and Scred Get Drunk," "Exorcist II," "Albert Brooks Is Homesick" (film), and "Richard Pryor Stand-Up."
Performances: Gil-Scott Heron performs "Johannesburg" and "A Lovely Day."
Pryor agreed to host the show only if musician Gil-Scott Heron, actor Thalmus Rasulala and Pryor's ex-wife Shelley could perform on the show. Flying back to New York, a frustrated Lorne Michaels said "He better be funny."
This episode was put on a seven-second delay due to Richard Pryor's notoriety for using obscene language in his comedy acts. The seven-second delay would be used in two later episodes hosted by raunchy comedians: Sam Kinison and Andrew "Dice" Clay.
