• Saturday Nights will never be the same again |
An award winning US institution, Saturday Night Live has been broadcast on American TV screens almost every Saturday night since its debut in 1975. It is one of the longest running entertainment programmes in American history and ITV4 is proud to welcome this ground breaking show to the channel. Saturday nights will never be the same again! Saturday Night Live is brand new and exclusive to ITV4, Saturdays from 4 November, Midnight.
Saturday Night Live has been the highest rated late-night show in the States since 1977. Now, for the first time ever, UK viewers can catch recent SNL instalments, as ITV4 broadcasts episodes just two to three weeks after they have aired across the pond.
While the cast members have changed over the years, the elements that make the show an Emmy winning success remain the same. Each week, the ensemble cast (who are all expected to write as well as perform) are joined by a celebrity host and a musical guest for hilarious sketches and parodies. The show has welcomed some of the biggest stars of film, TV and music over the years and whether they are appearing to promote their latest movie, perform songs from their new album or to make a surprise cameo, each guest brings a unique talent to SNL. A-list stars who have hosted SNL in recent weeks include; Steve Martin, Drew Barrymore, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Lindsay Lohan and John Goodman while Prince, U2, Ashlee Simpson, Paul Simon and Brian Wilson have all graced the SNL stage.
The show has been the launch pad for many a Hollywood star’s career. Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Mike Myers, Robert Downey Jr, Ben Stiller and Chris Rock all made their name on SNL and have never looked back.
Several SNL sketches have spawned box office successes, the most famous being The Blues Brothers and Wayne’s World. The most controversial musical moment on SNL was in 1992 when Sinéad O'Connor tore up a picture of the Pope. Ashlee Simpson's first performance on the show has become just as infamous when Simpson was caught breaking a cardinal rule of SNL – no lip syncing. Simpson made headlines when she did a little dance before racing off the stage - the only time in SNL history such an incident had ever happened.
Don’t miss the chance to catch the show that has kept America entertained for decades as Saturday Night Live makes its eagerly anticipated debut on ITV4.
