Dr. John 'J.D.' Dorian, played by Zach Braff
John Michael Dorian or J.D. is a wacky, fun, nervous intern turned cocky resident now attending at Sacred Heart Hospital. He wants to have the nickname "Tiger" but is either called J.D., Bambi (by Carla) or a girl's name (by Dr. Cox). Throughout the show he narrates his inner monologue.
He has dated Elliot Reid in the past but they are now just friends. He is best friends with Dr. Chris Turk. He now shares an apartment with Elliot Reid and is facing the everyday happenings of being an attending. |

Dr. Elliot Reid, played by Sarah Chalke
Dr. Elliot Reid is the neurotic attending with a mission to be noticed in the medical profession. She left Sacred Heart and managed to get a fellowship which didn't last long since the cure was found. She's now back with Sacred Heart Hospital. |

Dr. Christopher 'Chris' Duncan Turk, played by Donald Faison
Dr. Christopher Duncan Turk is a cocky surgeon with a god complex. He is married to Carla Espinosa. He loves to dance and has a few nicknames such as: Chocolate Bear (by J.D.), Super Chocolate Bear (by J.D.), Turkleton (by Dr. Kelso). He is an attending at Sacred Heart Hospital. He is best friends with Dr. John 'J.D.' Dorian. |

Dr. Robert Kelso, played by Ken Jenkins
Dr. Bob Kelso is the self-centered chief of medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital. He is hated by almost all the staff at the hospital. He is married to Enid (who is never seen in the show), he is considered 'Evil', he cheats on his wife, he doesn't care about anybody else and uses other people for his own personal gain. His nicknames are: Bobbo, Bobbotron, Bobcat. |

Dr. Perry Cox, played by John C. McGinley
Dr. Perry Cox is a self-centered doctor with a heart of gold. He has a strong, cocky personality, but likes to help people in his own way. The only feelings he really shows is "I am Dr. Cox, I am the king, I hate you all" but deep down he's a great guy; he just doesn't like to show it. He is worshiped by Dr. John Dorian, he constantly calls J.D. girls' names or points out how inadequate he is. His main rival is Dr. Kelso: both men hate each other, and Cox doesn't agree with Kelso's "medicine is a business" attitude.
Dr. Cox was married to Jordan Sullivan, but they decided to continue their relationship unmarried. Together, they have a son, Jack. |

Nurse Carla Espinosa, played by Judy Reyes
Carla Espinosa is a strong personality. She doesn't back down from a personal fight. She is married to Dr. Chris Turk and to quote Turk "She wears the pants in the relationship". She is good friends with J.D., Elliot, Dr. Cox and Laverne. |

Janitor [Season 2+, recurring previously], played by Neil Flynn
The Janitor is J.D.'s arch enemy. He is the janitor of the hospital and constantly finds new ways to annoy J.D. He is good friends with Troy, "the sloppy joe guy". Even though his personality is considered "evil", there have been some occasions where he seems more "human" than he usually is.
His real name has never been revealed. |
