Cultural References |
| |
"Red Dawn" is a parody of George Orwell's book 1984. The main storyline, as well as the themes and names used throughout the episode are all borrowed from the novel. | Battleship:
Behind the Admiral's desk is a large Battleship board. Published by the Milton Bradley Company in 1943 as a pad-and-pencil game, Battleship is a guessing game played by two people. The game became even more popular when released as board game. Most recently, the game has been revamped with an electronic edition. | Dr. Strangelove:
The final scene with Quinn, as he rides the bomb to the ground, is a reference to Stanley Kubrick's black comedy film Dr. Strangelove (1964). The movie is a satire about the Cold War, where a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union has been launched.
In 1989, the US Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally significant." |
