Heidi Swedberg reprises her role as Susan since her character has died. Since the show is told backwards, she was able to reappear in a scene that took place years before she died.

Director Andy Ackerman won the Director's Guild of America Award for his work on this episode.

Cultural References
Elaine's Boyfriend Pinter

The name of Elaine's boyfriend, Pinter, is a possible reference to playwright Harold Pinter. Pinter's plays often feature a love triangle told in backwards fashion, much as this episode is.

Episode References
Kramer uses the line "One for all the marbles" during this episode. This line was first used by Jerry in "The Nose Job" when Jerry's brain and penis are playing chess.

Jerry refers to the name "Kessler" being on Kramer's buzzer for his apartment. In "Good News, Bad News", Jerry refers to Kramer as "Kessler".
