Jerry and George have lunch at Pete's. Jerry tells George that the second button on his shirt is in the "worst possible spot". George worries that the coffee he is drinking isn't decaf. Jerry mentions that Laura, the girl he met at Michigan might be coming in to see him tomorrow. They speculate about her reasons for visiting Jerry, analyzing the specific wording she used on the phone. George believes that Jerry is just a backup, and they both ask the waitress, Claire, for her opinion. She answers that Laura called just to "be polite", agreeing with George. Jerry heads to the laundromat, and Claire mentions that she gave George "a little caffeine."
At the laundromat, George watches Jerry's clothes drying in the machine. He notes, "this is the dullest moment I've ever experienced." George and Jerry continue to discuss Laura and her phone conversation with Jerry. An impatient George asks Jerry to see if his clothes are done drying and Jerry refuses, saying that clothes can't be over dried. George surreptitiously opens the door on the dryer, stopping the cycle.
Back at Jerry's apartment, a Mets baseball game is on. Jerry gets a wrong number on the phone. There is a knock on the door and in walks Jerry's (unnamed) neighbor in a bathrobe, spoiling Jerry on the ending of the game, which Jerry had been watching on tape. The neighbor asks Jerry if he has any meat for his sandwich and a disgusted Jerry tells him to "go...hunt!" The neighbor makes himself at home, tearing a page from Jerry's magazine, licking it and replacing it after Jerry says he's not done with it. The neighbor then offers to speak to Laura, saying that he is persuasive and was almost a lawyer. Jerry gets a call from Laura, who asks Jerry to pick her up at the airport and if she can stay at his apartment tomorrow night.
The next day, Jerry and George bring an extra bed for Laura to Jerry's apartment. George wants to know why Jerry is doing so, and Jerry responds that he doesn't want to be presumptuous regarding Laura. George explains that this is a "signal" from Laura that she wants to sleep with Jerry, but is interrupted by the neighbor and his dog, who jumps on George and then goes to drink from the toilet. The still-unnamed neighbor asks George if he is still in real-estate, saying that he is interested in the "commercial....rrwhhooo....real estate." George and Jerry leave for the airport.
At the airport, Jerry and George wait for Laura, wondering how exactly she will greet Jerry. George and Jerry discuss different types of greetings and what they might mean. Laura deplanes, sneaks up behind Jerry and covers his eyes, then they both hold hands awkwardly, something that George and Jerry cannot interpret.
After returning to Jerry's apartment, Laura sits on the couch, takes off her shoes, unbuttons the first button on her shirt, then asks Jerry for wine and turns down the lights. She asks Jerry if she can stay another night and mentions that she would love to go on a 5-hour boat ride around Manhattan tomorrow. An excited Jerry agrees, but then the phone rings with a call for Laura, who tells Jerry to "never get engaged!" Visibly disappointed, Jerry is now committed to a long weekend of tour guiding with no reward.
