Grace Dunbar worked as a governess for J. Neil Gibson and his exotic wife, Maria. When a relationship developed between the English born governess and J. Neil Gibson, Maria Gibson became extremely jealous and violent in mind, harbouring feelings of intense hatred towards the governess and also for her husband.

When Maria's body is found on Thor Bridge all the evidence points to Grace Dunbar's guilt, and she is found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. Only Holmes's brilliant mind can save an innocent woman from the gallows but he has very little time in which to do it.

Jane Eyre: The plot of this story is similar to the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte with the marked difference that the mad woman in the attic has been let loose to do her worst.

Jane Eyre is the story of a governess who goes to work for Mr. Rochester, a man who is married to a mad woman whom he keeps locked in the attic of his home. The mad woman attempts to kill Mr. Rochester by setting fire to his bedroom but is soon restrained, allowing Rochester the chance to attain true happiness by marrying his beloved, Jane Eyre. After many trials and tribulations the two finally do marry, but only after the mad woman in the attic has been killed, her death caused by her own actions.
