Recap

Clark wakes up in a laboratory with a kryptonite-tinged needle mark on his left arm. A syringe dripping liquid kryptonite on a table nearby. He hears a cell phone ring and checks it for an incoming text message. It’s from Oliver, and says “I lost her.” Clark goes outside and finds himself in a seemingly empty city. He goes to the Daily Planet to find Lois and sees her standing in front of a photocopier. When he calls out her name, she turns and charges at her, her face horribly distorted in an animal-like snarl...

Episode Quotes
Clark: Oliver. Is this your idea of fun now that you've hung up your bow?
Oliver: Should have known it was you. Clark Kent - the king of buzzkill. You and your pet rock put on a hell of a barbecue although I had my money on Doomsday so...
Clark: You can try and play it off as a joke but I know that the loss of Jimmy affected us both.
Oliver: Well, I guess God's got a sick sense of humour. Oh, I'm sorry, shouldn't be taking your name in vain.

Clark: It just doesn't make any sense. Tess is not the nervous-breakdown type.
Lois: But she is the lying, cheating, scheming type. You keep enough secrets, they start to back up on your brain, Clark. Seriously--alien orbs? Now she's rambling about zombies. It all adds up to "C" for "crazy."

Dr. Emil Hamilton: Chloe, I couldn't help but notice that you practically jumped out of your chair when I came in here. I'd prefer that if there were no secrets between us.
Chloe: Then you're in the wrong business.

Lois: Oliver. what are you doing here?
Oliver: I was looking for Tess when the whole building went "Resident Evil."

Chloe: I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the people who are the worst at taking care of themselves are the ones the world actually needs the most.

Lois: But I do remember seeing a whole new side of Clark Kent.
Clark: Which side was that?
Lois: I'll give you a hint. It stars with "H" and ends with "ero."

Episode Goofs
You chop off someone's head, you get a lot of blood. A lot. Not a little. Not none. A lot.

Cultural References
Oliver: I was looking for Tess and the whole building went Resident Evil.

Resident Evil is the title of a 1996 Sony Playstation "survival horror" videogame which has become the basis for an array of media spinoffs, including several videogame sequels, several successful movies, novels, comic books, and other merchandise. It is one of the chief elements comprising "zombie chic" (along with the various "Day of the Dead" spinoff, remakes, and rip offs) common to modern horror themes. The primary focus of the videogame is survival in a location where a biological weapon has been introduced which turns people into the equivalent of undead zombies -- mindless, feral, almost unkillable, and from whom a the merest bite or scratch represents almost certain "undeath" by contagious infection.

Oliver: Any idea what triggered this sudden appetite for human carpaccio?

Carpaccio is an Italian (Venetian) dish of raw meat or fish.

Oliver: Clark Kent--the king of buzz kill.

Buzz kill is a euphemism for a "downer" -- an act, person, or other thing which eliminates or substantially reduces any euphoria from an experience, either derived from the adrenaline rush or actual drug usage (legal or otherwise). An example would be if you're having a great time at an amusement park and someone calls you to tell you your pet dog just died. It's generally an insult when applied as Oliver has to Clark.

Analysis
Lois: ...but I do remember seeing a whole new side of Clark Kent.
Clark: Which side was that?
Lois: I'll give you a hint. It starts with 'H' and ends with 'ero'.
Clark: And I wasn't even wearing red and blue...
Lois: Well, you've got a long ways to go before you can do that.

Some subtle ironic foreshadowing, here. Lois clearly means she thinks Clark, as a mere human, is a long ways away from being capable of anything like the Red and Blue Blur, despite the heroic nature she's finally seen in him, but, as we all know who Clark is and is destined to become, a secondary meaning applies to her statement in that it's also true that he still has a long ways to go before he will become what he will be. At the very least, he needs the power of flight.
