Escape - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Chloe is in a SUV driving down a country road, while using her laptop to guide Clark in his crimefighting efforts in Metropolis. Clark wraps up his efforts for the night and prepares to head out for a weekend off with Lois. He suggests that Chloe hook up with Bart, but she tells him that Lois has already set her up with something for the weekend.

Clark goes to the Daily Planet to take Lois on their surprise weekend. Since she doesn't know where they're going, she's packed several bags of different clothing. He tells her they're going to the McDougal Inn, a Scottish bed & breakfast.

At the inn, Chloe checks in under the name of Green… along with Oliver.

The super-powered Zod monitors Metropolis from atop the Daily Planet using his super-hearing. He hears the people speaking in admiration of the Blur. He then receives a text message saying he needs to meet with the caller.

Clark and Lois arrive at the inn and check in with the owner, Siobhan. She informs them that the room they had has sprung a leak during the storm, and there are no other rooms available. Lois is glad to go tell the Greens to get another room, but Clark offers to fix their room instead. He goes to check it out while Lois waits, and uses his heat vision to fix the leaking pipes.

As Lois gathers up her bags, she bumps into a painting of Siobhan's great grand-uncle, Bevan. She tears the picture and turns away, unaware of the mystical light radiating from the scratch. Siobhan informs her that Bevan usurped his sister's Siobhan birthright and killed her. Siobhan was granted the wish to return from the underworld, but was cursed to kill men. Lois leaves and the light from the painting floats into a nearby woman. Her hair grows a white streak and a skeleton briefly overlays her face, and she leads her boyfriend away.

Lois discovers that Clark has completely fixed the room. She prepares for bed and they both awkwardly get in. As they start to kiss, a ghostly wail echoes out from the nearby woods. They're unaware that the possessed woman has drained the lifeforce from her boyfriend and is dragging him away through the woods.

The guests gather on the porch to see what's going on, and Siobhan tells them that it's probably a wolf. As Clark and Lois go back to bed, they come face-to-face with Oliver and Chloe.

The next morning, Lois is excited to learn about her cousin's new relationship, but Clark would rather give them some space. Lois apologizes for talking about it all night, and Clark assures her that he's willing to wait for her. Upstairs, Oliver and Chloe see them and realize Lois won't give up. They sit down with them for breakfast, and Chloe explains they were looking for somewhere off the beaten path so the tabloids wouldn't find out. Clark explains he found a brochure for the inn at Lois' apartment, but Chloe points out it was Chloe's brochure. Lois is eager to talk about Chloe's new boyfriend and ushers her away to the buffet to talk. She tells Chloe that she's glad that she's together with Oliver, and is eager to double-date. Chloe warns that they're not a couple, just good friends trying to avoid something complicated. Inside, Clark and Oliver make small talk and Clark finally warns Oliver to take care of Chloe and not take her for granted.

Zod goes to the Kent farm and meets with his caller: Tess. She explains that they all want a better world, but Zod notes that no one trusts her and her obsession could cost her everything. He invites her to travel the world with him and relax, but she doesn't believe he's willing to give it all up. Tess caresses his stomach and then asks if he has any secrets. When Zod claims he doesn't Tess takes out a gun and shoots him. He catches the bullet and she's satisfied he's gained superpowers. When Zod points out she could have killed him if she was wrong, and Tess admits it was worth taking. He grabs her and prepares to kill her to preserve his secret, but she secretly removes a piece of kryptonite from a lead case in her pocket, causing Zod to collapse. Tess insists she won't be forced down again, and Zod says he doesn't want her to. She then kisses him and seals away the kryptonite, and Zod kisses her back.

At the inn, Chloe and Oliver return to their room and Chloe discovers that Oliver has bought her a present. She takes it the wrong way and figures that Clark said something to him, and figures that it means something complicated. Chloe goes out for a walk and says that when she returns, they can go back to their normal relationship. As she walks in the wood, Chloe spots a ghostly woman watching her. She goes to investigate and finds the man's corpse. The possessed woman grabs Chloe and the spirit jumps into Chloe's body.

Lois asks Clark to wait 10 minutes and he'll get a surprise. As Clark goes to take a shower, he passes Chloe. When he looks out, he discovers a naked Chloe waiting for him. Clark quickly grabs a towel and tries to get out around her, but she embraces him and tries to get him outside. Lois comes in, wearing a Scottish kilt, and takes things the wrong way. She hands Chloe a bottle of shampoo and the spirit touches into her. In the bathroom, Chloe comes back to herself and discovers she's naked in the shower with Clark. She runs off in a panic.

The possessed Lois finds Oliver and tells him that he can take her to where Chloe is waiting.

Clark and Chloe get dressed and look for Oliver and Lois. Chloe explains that she doesn't remember anything, including a naked Clark. As they search, Chloe wonders how Clark plans to deal with sex with a non-powered person, and he tells her that his training with Jor-El has given him the necessary control. Chloe remembers that she was walking in the woods before she blacked out, and they go to the spot where she was at. They find the man's corpse and conclude that a ghost is on the loose and possessed first Chloe and now Lois.

The possessed Lois grabs Oliver and slams him into a tree, a skeletal image on her face.

Clark and Chloe return to the inn and Siobhan tells them the rest of her namesake ancestor's story. She explains that her ancestor was given great powers in the underworld: uncommon strength and the ability to slay any woman who hears her wail. The villagers named her Silver Banshee, and a relic was created in her own image that allowed her to leave the underworld. Bevan conducted a ritual to cover the relic with blood, sealing the portal shut. They realize the relic is a painting, and the portrait of Bevan covers Siobhan's image. They realize that Lois accidentally opened the portal, and Clark goes to find Lois while Chloe tries to close the portal.

Silver Banshee in Lois' body transforms into her full ghostly visage, and vows to have vengeance and power. She wails, striking Oliver down, and Clark arrives to intervene. Silver Banshee is only interested in killing and wails at Clark. He charges forward and uses his heat vision to disrupt the sonic blast. The backlash knocks him back.

Chloe and Siobhan find Bevan's diary and discover that fire is the key. They set the portrait on fire, closing the portal.

In the woods, Silver Banshee prepares to wail again. However, she suddenly bursts into flame as her spirit is destroyed, leaving Lois unharmed.

The next day, Zod and Tess wake up after a night in bed. Zod wonders how Tess managed to weaken him, but she insists on keeping her secrets. He warns that he will do anything to protect his Kryptonian birthright. Tess notes that he seems to consider them enemies, and Zod admits that he's been using his powers to keep an eye and ear on Clark. She insists that Clark isn't Zod's competition, but the major warns that Clark holds himself apart from humans and Kryptonians alike. The Blur has become humanity's new messiah, and will follow him willingly. Zod wants the secret of Clark's appeal, and the ability to take it away. As Tess gets up, she tells Zod that information is power.

At the inn, Chloe is on the porch looking at Oliver's present. He comes out and tells her that it's a spoon he bought in the inn's gift shop. Oliver apologizes for second-guessing himself, and Chloe tells him not to take relationship advice from Clark. He asks her about her feelings for Clark, and Chloe admits that she used to love him. However, he never saw her as anything more than a friend, and Chloe wanted someone who would get her. She asks him if he misses Lois, and Oliver admits he has a few scars, but they've healed.

Clark and Lois return to her apartment and they figure it could have gone worse. Clark finally kisses her, but Lois gets a phone call. She apologizes and goes outside to take the call in private. It's the Blur, who wants her to find out what she can about Tess Mercer. Lois promises to do whatever she can.

Atop the Daily Planet, Zod turns off the voice distorter and hangs up.
