Sacrifice - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
On her way to Watchtower, Chloe stops to get coffee from her regular vendor. She then enters the tower elevator, undergoing DNA, fingerprint, and voiceprint identification. However, when Chloe enters the chamber, she discovers that someone is hacking into Watchtower's computer systems. Tess ambushes her and explains that she realized Oliver was worried about Watchtower, and he has feelings for Chloe. She has Chloe's hidden gun, but Chloe manages to distract her long enough to get close and struggle for the gun. A shot goes off and the security systems go into lockdown, sealing them in. When Tess demands that Chloe release them, Chloe checks and discovers that the computer system is in control and they're not going anywhere.

Clark meets with Oliver at his LuthorCorp office and asks for his help finding Zod. He doesn't want to risk Watchtower falling into Zod's hands and keep Chloe out of the line of fire. Clark explains that Zod impersonated the Blur to get at Lois, but he wants to avoid Oliver setting off a war by firing the first shot. Oliver agrees and leaves for the manor, figuring Tess might have some intel. As Clark goes, Oliver tells him that the Kandorians aren't his only family.

Tess tries to shoot out the shutters without success, and then explains she used a DNA cloak with some of Chloe's stolen skin samples to get into Watchtower. Tess is unable to cal out due to the security systems. They then discover that the system has detected a hacking signal, which is still trying to break through. Tess explains she wanted to erase Chloe's information, not reroute it. Chloe figures that Checkmate is homing in on them to get at Watchtower.

A mobile Checkmate squad, lead by Tess' former scientist, Stuart Campbell, is trying to home in on Watchtower. Waller contacts them to inform Campbell that they've deciphered some of the information, and warns Campbell, her white knight, to be careful now that the Red Queen is active.

Tess and Chloe try to determine where the tracking device on Tess is, and Chloe warns that even a few seconds of stolen data could give Waller everything on her team. She then scans Tess herself and they realize the tracking device is inside her. Chloe tries to cut it out but it activates and burrows deeper. Tess explains that it's a metallic parasite that energizes itself from the host body.

The Kandorians interested in peace are undergoing a ceremony of life led by Vala and directed toward Faora. Faora takes the flower offered and gives it new life. Clark arrives and watches, and afterward Faora warns him that Zod disappeared with the other Kandorians. She explains that they believe they were wrong to put their faith in Clark. Now they're waiting for Zod to return so they can beg his forgiveness. Clark warns that Zod already has powers and has kept them secret for weeks, and then says there's something she needs to see.

At the manor, Green Arrow breaks in and starts searching. However, Zod arrives and tosses in a dead Checkmate agent. He explains that the agent told him about Checkmate before he died, and who the organization is after. Zod warns that Checkmate is using Tess to get to both of them, and suggests they join forces against a common enemy. Green Arrow refuses since it will start World War III, and draws on Zod. Zod warns that he can't shoot fast enough and attacks, slamming Green Arrow into the wall. However, as Zod advances, he realizes that Green Arrow shot him with a kryptonite dart.

The heat and air go off in Watchtower, and the two women only have three minutes of air remaining. Tess claims she just wanted to save the world, but Chloe points out the trail of corpses she's left behind. In response, Tess notes that she doesn't trust people either. Chloe admits she's lost her faith in people, and Tess points out that's why she won't let Chloe get close. Chloe figures that Oliver will eventually leave, but Tess tells her that with her, Oliver has found a purpose. She admits that it kill her that Chloe has Oliver's trust and doesn't even realize it. When Tess mentions the air conditioning, Chloe gets an idea and takes a canister of supercold coolant from the computer. It's cold enough to shatter steel, but removing it will destroy the mainframe and all of her work. Tess notes that they'll die if she doesn't, and Chloe goes ahead with the plan. She throws it at the shutter and Tess shoots it, and they then use a table to smash through the brittle steel. They leave and Campbell, tracking, realizes that they're on the move and can be tracked.

Clark takes Faora to the Kent farm and shows her the messages that Jor-El sent, warning that Zod had destroyed Krypton. Faora says that Zod gave her something to unite their people, and Clark realizes that the ceremony was for protection of an unborn child. Zod is the father of Faora's baby, and Clark insists it's proof she can have a life without powers, and Krypton will live on through her.

As Zod lies close to death, he wonders why Green Arrow doesn't kill him. He explains that he gave Clark his word and steps away to call Clark.

Faora shows Clark a drawing of the Book of Rao, which contains great power that Zod can use for almost any purpose. Clark gets Oliver's call that he has Zod. As Clark prepares to leave, Oliver realizes that Zod managed to remove the dart. Zod attacks Green Arrow and Clark gets there too late. He finds Oliver with a Z burned into his chest.

Waller calls Campbell and tells him that they've decrypted Watchtower's files and found where the Kandorians are hiding. Campbell cuts off and then tells his men that they'll continue their hunt for Tess because of what she did for him.

Chloe takes Tess to Metropolis General and explains that she's too valuable to let out of her sight until they remove the tracking device.

At a warehouse, Faora asks her fellow Kandorians to join with her against Zod rather than let her child be raised beneath a tyrant's rule. She's interrupted when Checkmate agents launch an attack on them. The powerless Kandorians are easily subdued. Waller arrives and takes away Faora, while ordering her agents to kill the others.

Clark takes Oliver to the ER, and Oliver warns him that Checkmate is after the Kandorians and only Clark can save them.

As the Checkmate team prepares to eliminate the Kandorians, Clark arrives and easily knocks them out. Vala tells him that Waller has Faora and Clark goes to find her.

Chloe gets Tess into a hospital storage room and finds a syringe of atropine. She explains that she's going to stop Tess' heart so that the tracker has no further energy to draw on. Chloe will then remove it and restart Tess' heart with the atropine. Tess wonders if Chloe will revive her, and Chloe informs Tess that she'll just have to trust her. With no other choice, Tess lies on a gurney and Chloe goes ahead with the first part of the plan.

Campbell and his men discover that the tracking signal has gone dead. They break into the supply room but Tess is gone. They fan out to search, unaware that Chloe has moved Tess' body to a nearby room. Once she's in the clear, she takes the syringe, considers for a moment, and then injects it into Tess' chest. Tess revives and admits that she wasn't sure Chloe would bring her back. Chloe admits that she wasn't sure, either. As they leave, Chloe reminds Tess that she owes her, and will make sure she doesn't revive if she says anything about Watchtower and her team to anyone. Tess merely notes that now, Chloe will have to trust her.

Waller takes Faora to an alleyway and explains that Zod has destroyed Checkmate's field offices. Faora insists that her people will help, and the only one she is betraying is Zod. Before Waller can accept Faora's offer, Zod arrives and throws her hard into her car's windshield. Before Zod can finish her off, Clark arrives and knocks him back. As Zod recovers, he insists that Checkmate's actions deserve justice. As Clark checks on Waller, Zod escapes with Faora.

Zod takes Faora to his secret base of operations and reminds her of how he saved her during the Siege of Argos and made her his lieutenant and partner. But now she has betrayed him, and he asks why. Faora says that he's turned his back on her and the others who wanted to assimilate. Zod insists that only he will lead his people to the next age. When Faora warns that he sacrificed one world for his ego, he tells her she knows nothing of sacrifice. She says she'll know more than he ever will, and he demands that she kneel before him. When Faora refuses, he grabs her by the throat, forces her down, and then snaps her neck. As she does, she drops the flower that Vala gave her earlier. Realizing that Faora is pregnant with his child, he kneels but can only listen as his unborn child dies.

Waller and Campbell return to Checkmate headquarters and prepare to locate Tess. She warns that they're at war and tells Campbell to contact the UN while they regroup. Zod smashes his way in, killing dozens of agents, and incinerates Waller and Campbell with his heat vision.

At the hospital, Chloe watches over the unconscious Oliver. When Clark arrives, Chloe demands revenge but Clark still wants to negotiate a peace. They spot a newscast showing the destruction of Checkmate's headquarters, and they realize that Zod has declared war. Chloe receives a signal from an orbital satellite informing her that Zod and his people are at the Fortress.

Zod brings Faora's body to the Fortress and tell his soldiers that the humans killed her, and with his son dead they must preserve their birthright through force. Clark arrives and informs the Kandorians that Zod was the last one with Faora. Zod points out that Clark tried to help Waller, the woman who planned to kill them. Clark turns to Vala, reminding her that her sister wanted peace. Vala considers and then sides with Zod, saying the humans will never let them live in peace. The Kandorians kneel before Zod, who vows that humanity will bow before him. When Clark insists he won't let it happen, Zod notes he can't stop them, and then flies away with his soldiers
