Supergirl - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Three weeks ago, the dark presence forms briefly at the church where Clark opened the portal for the Kandorians. It then splits apart into a flock of ravens and spreads throughout the city.

Radio jock Gordon Godfrey is doing a late-night broadcast, talking out against illegal aliens. He notices a raven tapping at the window and ignores it, and then signs off. More ravens arrive and smash through the window, and merge with Godfrey as his eyes turn black.

Now, Clark is on the street, listening to Godfrey promote his new book protesting super-heroes in general and the Blur in particular. He warns that vigilantes won't lift them up out of the darkness. Lois finds Clark, who is surprised to see that she's returned from Africa. She notes that he wanted her to take the job, and Clark wonders if they're partners again. Lois insists that she is and tells him that she's arranged for Cat to be assigned to a story in Alaska. As Godfrey continues to rant, Lois assures Clark that the Blur isn't concerned about Godfrey. However, when Godfrey speaks out against the Blur, Lois takes offense and prepares to confront him. Godfrey unveils a new billboard, but it comes loose and falls toward the crowd below. The crowd cheers as Clark and Lois realizes that the red-and-blue-clad figure is... Kara, Clark's cousin.

At the Planet, Lois reads the headlines about the new "Maiden of Might" and dumps Cat's belongings off of her desk. She notes that Clark must be surprised that Kara has powers, and suggests that she was affected by meteor rock. Lois notes that the crowds will eventually turn against her despite the fact they were cheering her earlier. Clark wonders if the Blur should show himself to the public, but Lois insists that Kara is putting Clark and herself at risk by revealing herself publicly.

Kara is participating in a photo shoot when Clark finds her. They talk privately and Kara says that it's important that she get image out across town as quickly as possible. She insists that she's doing Clark a favor, but he doesn't believe it. Kara explains that she came back to be with her last remaining family member, but Clark insists that she has to be honest. She finally gives in and tells Clark that Jor-El has given her a mission, and spreading her image is part of it. Jor-El has let Clark go and no longer considers him his son.

Godfrey is attending church when Lana confronts him and asks for a story on his hatred of vigilantes. The radio jock insists that Kara risked people's lives to undermine the message of his book. Godfrey boasts that he has people investigating Kara and the other vigilantes, and has evidence that Oliver Queen is Green Arrow, Lois' ex-boyfriend. He'll reveal Oliver's identity in the last chapter of his book when he distributes it the next day.

The next day, Oliver is exercising while remembering his special moments with Chloe. Lois comes to visit him and Oliver figures that she's playing her usual passive-aggressive stance with men. Lois insists that she was honestly concerned about Clark, and warns that Godfrey plans to publish Oliver's secret identity. Oliver thinks that the people deserve to know the truth. Lois disagrees, and says that she'll go after Godfrey if he won't.

Godfrey meets with his publicist and explains that he has the only copy of the last chapter. He refuses to let her see it, and starts talking about how he wants her to spread his image across the word. Once that is done, he plans to destroy human's faith in each other and in their heroes. She tells him to take a break and leaves, and he considers a brochure for a fetish hangout, Club Desaad. Godfrey orders the driver to take him there, unaware that Lois has taken the driver's place.

Clark goes to the barn to get the teleportation key to the Fortress, but Kara already has it. She tells him there's no point in confronting Jor-El and that a darkness has come to Earth. Kara has been trying to draw it to her, but Clark insists he's ready and Jor-El is afraid. She warns him that the darkness takes advantage of its victims' doubts, and notes that he still hasn't overcome his doubts and learned to fly. Clark wonders if she trusts Jor-El more than him, and says she needs his help as family.

Kara takes Clark to the top of the windmill and tries to explain how to fly. He tries to concentrate but is distracted by the noises of the world. She tells him to focus on one thing, a butterfly. Clark lifts off briefly, but then falters and crashes into the barn. Kara admits she shouldn't have disobeyed Jor-El, and warns Clark that he's not ready. She explains that the darkness came through a rift in the universe three weeks ago, and Clark realizes where it came from. He goes to the church and explains that he opened the Book of Rao to open a portal and send the Kandorians away. He suggests the darkness could go back through a portal created by Kara's bracelet, and explains that the darkness can see its victims' thoughts and emotions, and seizes on one seed of doubt. Jor-El fears that it could possess Clark, and turn him into a weapon against humanity.

Oliver goes to the church and contemplates the photo of his parents and himself as a young child. He talks to them of how he's failed to try and protect others like they wanted, and refuses to let anyone else get hurt on his behalf. He kisses the photo goodbye and leaves it in the church.

Lois goes into the club and steals a dominatrix costume. She then finds Godfrey and lures him into a backroom. Once there, she handcuffs him and photographs him with two other women. Once she sends them away, Lois reveals who she is. Godfrey admires her and suggests that she'll sell out anyone for a story. He offers her the evidence on Oliver in exchange for his freedom, but she sends the photos to the newspaper. Godfrey then breaks himself free and grabs Lois, but realizes that she's pure of heart. She grabs a stun gun but Godfrey knocks her out, his eyes turning black.

Clark takes Kara to Watchtower, and she wonders if Jor-El has underestimated him. They figure that the dark force's victim is a person of influence, and Godfrey is on all the channels. Using his super-hearing, Clark realizes that the darkness is speaking through him. Kara checks the security cameras and spots Godfrey's car... and Lois at the wheel. They speed of to the club.

Lois wakes up and finds herself bound in red silk ropes hooked up to winches. Godfrey tells her that her suffering will bring the Blur to him, and she can't escape her fate.

Clark and Kara track Lois' cell phone, enter the club, and split up to find Lois. Clark goes to a backroom and finds Godfrey, who tells him that Lois is in way over her head. Now he has a hero, and asks Clark if he think he can win against him. The force within Godfrey tells Clark that he can see the fear within him that he'll never be the hero he wants to be, and that he can unleash that darkness. Clark vows never to serve him, but the darkness leaps out of Godfrey and swarms at Clark. However, Kara arrives and deflects it with her bracelet. Clark admits that the darkness could see inside him. They hear Lois and Clark frees her and then leaves. Kara helps Lois up while Clark watches from the shadows.

As Lois and Kara leave, Kara notes that there are two sides to everyone, even heroes. Lois asks what it feels like to have powers, and Kara says that she feel free. However, Lois wonders if it gets lonely, and figures it's easy to be a hero if someone isn't tying them down. Kara disagrees and says that even heroes need someone to come home to.

At the Planet, Lois shows Clark a copy of the Inquisitor. A friend there ran the Godfrey photo. Clark warns her that she went too far, but Lois insists that she couldn't let him undermine Metropolis' faith in its defenders. Her worst fear is that she'll be alone in a world without heroes. When Clark warns her about putting heroes up too high on a pedestal, Lois insists that the Blur will always be there.

As Clark leaves the building, he bumps into a brunette. He quickly realizes that it's Kara, wearing a disguise, and she admits she can't save people when she's the center of attention. However, she has no plans to leave until the darkness is defeated. Kara explains that the bracelet won't work on the dark spirit unless it's trapped within a host. It didn't want her because Kara is pure of spirit. However, she insists that she doesn't feel pure of spirit. Clark admits that it would have possessed him if Kara hadn't intervened, and she repeats his warning that he could become the darkness' ultimate weapon. She asks him to leave the fight to her and goes. Clark notices the anti-Blur graffiti on the wall, and a passerby admits that he wonders if they put too much in vigilantes. Clark is left to wonder if the Blur isn't the hero he thinks he is.

Lois goes to see Oliver and gives him the flash drive. He thanks her but says that he can't let his loved ones come to harm on his behalf. Oliver tells Lois that Chloe has left to protect his secret, and he doesn't think she'll be coming back. Lois assures him that her cousin will be back, but Oliver decides things have gone on long enough. He puts on his jacket and calls in the waiting press. Once they've gathered, he announces that he is Green Arrow.
