Clark examines a list of the twelve jurors who convicted Harry Volk. The last name on the list is Bradley Jubenville. This is likely a reference to Second Assistant Director Bradley Jubenvill.
| When a Sense is Lost, Do Other Senses Improve?
The short answer is no. This assertion appears in a lot of popular literature but remains controversial. There is some evidence that the brain recruits areas serving a damaged sensory organ to process input from functioning senses. It is also true that attempts to compensate for a missing sense may cause an individual to pay greater attention to the other senses. But studies remain unclear on how often and to what degree this occurs.

Cassandra Carver
A Greek myth tells the tale of Cassandra, a woman so beautiful that Apollo granted her the gift of prophecy – essentially, the ability to see the future. She spurned Apollo’s affections, and the angry god cursed her – she could still foresee the future, but no one would believe her visions.
| Going Back in Time to Erase a Bad Event
Clark tells Lana he wishes he could go back in time to erase a horror of her childhood (the death of her parents). In the 1978 film Superman Christopher Reeve’s Man of Steel did exactly this after he discovered that Lex Luthor’s earthquake had crushed Lois Lane. Clark’s comment here is likely a nod to that groundbreaking comic book film.

Cassandra: So did the Greeks.
Cassandra refers her to the events of the siege of Troy. The Greeks feigned retreat, leaving a gift behind for their Trojan opponents – an enormous horse. The feckless Trojans accepted the gift, wheeling it into their city. That night, Greek soldiers hidden within the horse emerged and opened the city gates, and Greek soldiers overwhelmed Troy. Ever since, the phrases “Greeks bearing gifts” and “Trojan horse” have symbolized situations in which something beneficial on its face may actually be a subterfuge to bypass defenses.
