Freak of the Week: Jodi Melville - After taking weight loss milkshakes filled with kryptonite, she is able to suck the fat from any person she chooses.
The Smallville Torch
This is the first episode to prove that Pete Ross writes for the Torch. An article by him is visible when Lex peruses the paper online.
Where in the World is Metropolis?
At least one of the Metropolis zip codes is 66632-2423. (In fact, this is an unassigned zip code at the present time). This is the zip code from which Dr. Vargas sends a letter to Lex.
Chloe: This is Smallville, Clark. Land of the weird, home of the strange.
Lex: Funny how one day can change your whole life.
Lex: Are you the only one that blames the meteors instead of me?
Chloe: Pretty much. Well, there is Mr. Hamilton.
Clark: Except most people don't have too high regard for a guy who sells plastic meteor chips to tourists.
Clark: Time to revisit the fat-sucking vampire theory.
Chloe: You know if you hadn't been there, he probably would have died, Clark.
Clark: What I can't figure out is why anyone would want to steal body fat.
Chloe: I know, it takes eating disorders to a whole new level.
Dr. Hamilton: What you're looking for…could take years.
Lex: I'm a patient man.
Dr. Hamilton: Tell me: why does a billionaire's son care so much about a bunch of rocks that fell out of the sky twelve years ago?
Lex: I save that story for the people I trust.
Lex: Isn’t that your theory? That meteors somehow alter cellular makeup? That sounds to me like research worth funding.
Hamilton: (laughs) Sorry. My… funding is private and so are my results.
Lex: Your funding comes from tourists.
Hamilton: If you are so interested in meteors, here, take one. Enjoy it. I have nothing else for sale!!
Pete Has a Serious Migraine
Pete actually has a concussion, the headache (and other symptoms) caused by a blow to the head. Generally speaking, any blow to the head that causes unconsciousness causes a concussion. A migraine is a specific sort of headache and is normally not caused by a blow to the head.
Laura Potter's Speech
An article visible when Lex peruses the Smallville Torch refers to the speech Laura Potter gave at graduation. Lana investigated this speech and Chloe recovered a recording of it for Lana in an earlier episode, “X-Ray.”
Friends at the Inquistor
Lex undoubtedly refers here to reporter Roger Nixon, whom Lex keeps on a short leash with blackmail threats. Nixon’s own misdeeds in “X-Ray” put him at odds with Lex, who took control of the relationship and forced concessions from the newsman. Nixon is likely also who dug up dirt on Dr. Hamilton at Lex's request.
Whitney’s Tryout with Kansas State
We are meant to assume that Lex arranged for Whitney to be called to Kansas State the day of Lana’s party, presumably to clear the field for his friend Clark. Perhaps a large cash donation to the school convinced the athletic department to favor Whitney’s bid for the team over the candidate who dropped out, and may even explain why Whitney had to tryout on the Saturday of Lana’s party.
