Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in which James Marster played "Spike".

Carrie Fisher is listed as Special Appearance By. James Marsters is listed as Special Guest Star.
At one point, Professor Fine tells Clark that "there's no such thing as vampires." This is an in-joke referring to the fact that
James Marsters is best known for playing the vampire Spike in
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and
Angel.
John Schneider (Jonathan Kent), Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent), John Glover (Lionel Luthor) and Erica Durance (Lois Lane) do not appear in this episode.

Episode Goofs
During Chloe's interview with Khaun she does not show any signs of bite marks on her neck... Though she was bitten by Lana earlier on in the episode
Lex says that vampire bats were found in the cave in Smallville. Vampire bats are not native to North America, they are native to Southern America.
