Clark and Chloe are on assignment in Metropolis watching the police bring a witness to a courthouse under heavy escort. They’re unaware that man, Graham, is watching. Graham in turn is unaware that he’s in the path of an oncoming car. Clark notices the car, gets to the scene at super-speed, and then pulls Graham clear of the car. Graham gets Clark’s name from his press badge. Meanwhile, the police get the witness inside the courthouse and take him to a holding room. They make sure the room is clear and then lock him in. However, as soon as the police leave Graham goes from invisible to visible inside the room, and strangles the witness. The alarms go off and the police burst in, but the only thing in the room is the corpse. Outside, Graham turns visible and slips away.

Clark and his mother return to the farm to discover Lois playing video games on a new big-screen TV. The game system and the TV are anonymous presents addressed to Clark. Clark wonders if Lionel is responsible and trying to buy his affections. After sending the gifts back to the store, Clark goes to get Chloe’s help to trace the gifts, and she tells him about the witness died under mysterious circumstance. Chloe is unable to track the gift-giver and, distracted, almost mentions Lex’s and Lana’s secret but covers at the last moment.

At the farm, Graham invisibly watches Lois as she exercises. He turns visible and introduces himself, and Lois is initially impressed. Lois tells him that Clark returned the presents and Graham isn’t happy. Lois suggests that he stay and talk to Clark.

At the manor, Lex returns to find Lana waiting for him. She tells him that she hasn’t been able to find anything on Fine and doubts that he works for the government as he claims. They start to kiss, unaware that Clark has come in to see Lex and saw them without them seeing him. He goes to see Chloe and accuses her of keeping secrets, and Chloe tells him that he’s best off dropping the matters since he’s the one who broke off the relationship with Lana.

Clark goes back to the barn and as he looks at a picture of Lana, Graham arrives. He says that he wants to pay off his debt to Clark and invites him to a party in Metropolis. When they arrive, it turns out he’s also invited Lois. Graham tries to set Clark up with an attractive woman, Gia, but Clark makes a hasty exit and explains that Lana is his true love. Impressed, Graham decides to pay off his debt by bringing them back together. He learns that Lana’s now involved with Lex but figures that won’t be a problem.

Graham goes to the manor and watches Lex until the time is right. The invisible assassin then tries to kill Lex, and only Lana’s unexpected arrival stops him. She catches a glimpse of Graham before he leaves. Lex is taken to the hospital and Clark goes to visit him. He talks to Lana and gets a description of the killer, confirming that it’s Graham.

Graham goes to the Talon to visit Lois and convinces her to go on a date with him. He turns to his apartment to find Clark waiting for him. Clark starts to go after the murderer and Graham discovers he’s invulnerable. He manages to escape by turning invisible. Clark goes to see Chloe, who figures Graham is a meteor freak and has used his power to become a major-league assassin. As they discuss meteors and Clark’s vulnerability to them, they’re unaware that an invisible Graham is listening in on them.

At the Talon, Lois is taking a shower at her apartment and Graham sneaks in to watch her. When Lois hears someone moving around, she goes to investigate but only finds Clark at her door. Realizing Graham is there, Clark uses his super-hearing to pinpoint him. He tries to grab him as Graham ducks into a construction site, but Graham has armed himself with a piece of kryptonite. He buries Clark and leaves him to die and then says he’s heading for the hospital to kill Lex.

Lana is visiting Lex and tells him that Clark visited. He suggests that Lana tell Clark that they’re involved before he finds out on his own.

Lois is dressing for her date when Chloe arrives. She tells her cousin about Graham’s true identity and they go to find Clark. They discover him at the construction site and Chloe manages to secretly get the kryptonite away while they dig Clark free. Clark tells them where Graham is heading and then slips away.

Lex is alone talking with Milton Fine. He asks Lex if the compound virus is ready and Lex confirms that it is. Lana comes in and Lex breaks off the connection. Outside, Graham kills Lex’s guard and tries to invisibly sneak into the room. Lex spots him and fires with a gun he has ready. He manages to shoot Graham and then he runs with Lana. Graham knocks him down and takes the gun, and fires on Lex and Lana as they run down the hallway. Clark arrives, unnoticed, and stops the bullet heading for the couple, just as Graham dies of his bullet wound.

The next day, Lois commiserates with Martha about her bad luck with men. Meanwhile, Clark visits Chloe at the Planet to congratulate her on her first front-page story: Graham’s murder attempts. Clark wonders if he did the right thing by saving Graham originally, given all the trouble it caused, but Chloe says he can’t pick and choose who is worthy of saving.

Clark returns to the barn and takes down his telescope. Lana comes in and finally tells him that she’s now involved with Lex. Clark warns that she’s in danger from him, but Lana insists that it was Clark’s decision, not hers, and she can protect herself.
