Wither - Recap

Jimmy and Chloe have driven to a local makeout spot but Jimmy is there to check out a report of strange activity. As they discuss their relationship and how they should take it slow, they end up kissing. Meanwhile, another couple runs off to skinny dip. Jimmy and Chloe hear them scream and go to investigate. They find the couple’s clothing, and then finally the girl’s corpse, impaled on the branches of a tree dozens of feet above the ground.

Martha is at home with Clark and receives an invitation to Lex’s “Dark Thursday” charity ball. She wonders if Clark is over Lex and Lana being together, and Clark says that he is.

Lana sees a picture of herself in the newspaper, billed as the newest “Lex girl,” and goes to see Lex. She wonders about she’s just another Lex girl to him too. Lex tries to reassure her, and wonders if her prior involvement with Clark is going to affect their new relationship.

Chloe tells Clark what happened and how the girl’s boyfriend has disappeared. She wonders if the boy might be a krypto-mutant. They quickly switch topics when Jimmy comes in.

At the Kent farm, Lois is seeing what job opportunities the tabloid newspaper The Inquisitor has available. Oliver Queen arrives with a letter from his company to Martha. Lois mistakenly thinks he’s the delivery and rudely tells him to leave. When Martha arrives, she quickly realizes what happened and who Oliver is, and informs Lois that she was counting on Oliver’s support.

Clark and Chloe check out the site where the girl was killed, near Lex’s manor. Clark meets Gloria, a park ranger, and she thinks he looks familiar. He uses his x-ray vision and spots the boy, covered in thorny plants. As Clark pulls the boy free, the thorns are sharp enough to cut Clark’s hand.

Clark, Chloe, and Jimmy go to the ICU later to check on the boy’s condition. According to the x-rays, there’s some kind of mass in the boy’s lungs. Jimmy is worried that Chloe went off without him to investigate the murder scene. After Jimmy leaves, Clark suggests that Lex was somehow involved. Clark superspeeds out to the manor’s greenhouse and finds some unusual seeds. Lex arrives, angry to discover Clark trespassing. He insists that Lana is with him now and tells Clark to leave.

Lana goes to visit Chloe and talks to her about her problems with Lex.

Jimmy goes out to the murder scene on his own and Gloria finds him. She starts to flirt with him, but then throws him to the ground and animates the nearby plants. Gloria commands them to immobilize him and then thrust themselves down his throat.

Oliver is practicing yoga at his penthouse when Lois pays him a visit. She tries to apologize for her earlier rudeness but is less than convincing. Despite that, Oliver invites her to the Dark Tuesday ball and suggests she wear a Maid Marian costume.

Clark and Chloe go back to the hospital to check on the boy as he undergoes surgery to remove the mass in his lungs. As they wait, Chloe reveals that she had a botanist friend analyze the plant life the boy was covered in, and determined it’s not of terrestrial origins. The doctors run out of the operating room and Clark and Chloe investigate. They discover that the same plants have burst out of the boy’s chest, killing him, and then covered the entire room. Clark and Chloe also notice the EMTs bringing in a dead female park ranger. They figure the Gloria Clark met earlier is an imposter and is the killer. She places the plants within male humans to reproduce. Since she didn’t need the girlfriend, the mystery woman killed her. Clark goes to find the fake Gloria and Chloe notices the vines from the boy’s chest being electrocuted when they contact live wires.

Clark finds Gloria and realizes she’s an escapee from the Phantom Zone, one of the prisoners that came back with him. Gloria explains that her planet was built over and when she violently fought back, she was condemned to the Zone. Clark suggests that she try to adapt to life on Earth, but Gloria refuses and explains she is going to attend the Dark Tuesday ball and find more males to use as breeding stock. She commands the vines to impale Clark, leaving him suspended. As she leaves, Clark spots a cocooned Jimmy nearby.

Lex, dressed as Alexander the Great, arrives at the charity ball and is impressed when Lana arrives, dressed as Cleopatra. Oliver, dressed as Robin Hood, arrives with Lois. The two men talk about how they knew each other at boarding school. Lois makes amends for her earlier actions by convincing Oliver to talk to Martha.

In the woods, Chloe finds Clark and Jimmy and uses a taser to free Clark. He goes back to Lex’s greenhouse to find Gloria while Chloe tries to help Jimmy. Gloria is in the greenhouse seducing one of the male guests. Clark tells him to leave and Gloria attacks him. Clark activates the sprinklers with his heat vision and then rips open the circuit box. The electricity shocks Gloria and the plants, killing them.

Chloe calls the EMTs to pick up Jimmy. As she waits with him in the back, she uses a defib unit to kill the plant mass in Jimmy’s lungs, saving him.

After the party, Oliver is boasting of his prowess with a bow and Lois dares him to shoot a distant pop can. If he hits it, she’ll kiss him. Oliver uses his Robin Hood bow and aims, fires, and apparently misses. Amused, Lois leaves, unaware that Oliver shot the tab off the top of the can without disturbing the can.

After they leave the party, Lex admits to Lana that he’s satisfied that her feelings for him are real. They embrace.

Clark sits at home in the loft, alone.
