At the manor, Lex comes in to see Lana in her bedroom as she’s preparing for the night. She assures him that she can trust him but Lana is still reluctant to discuss her pregnancy with him. She finally decides to tell him but the alarms go off. Security rushes in and declares a 142 emergency, and start to move Lex and Lana to the panic room. However, Lex suddenly disappears in a burst of electrical static. As the guards secure Lana in the panic room, Lex gets up from the floor. He tries to leave the study but a burst of electricity blocks him. He can’t contact anyone and no one seems present Finally Lex determines that he’s turned discorporeal.
Clark goes to see Chloe at the
Daily Planet, and she has a report for him on a ship that was supposedly hit by a meteorite at the same time that Clark escaped from the Phantom Zone. The entire crew was killed and the ship towed to Seattle. Clark prepares to go, taking Jor-El’s crystal with him. Lana calls and asks Chloe for help investigating Lex’s disappearance. Clark decides to investigate the deaths in Seattle instead and leaves.
Lana goes to see Lionel, who has heard of Lex’s disappearance. She demands to see the security tapes, noting that Lionel has told the guards to refuse her request. She tells Lionel what happened and asks what a 142 emergency is. He denies any knowledge of such a code but promises her he’ll look into it. After Lana leaves, Lionel immediately makes a call to a doctor at GenoTechnology.
Clark arrives at the Seattle docks and convinces the coroner that he’s a med student. She explains that someone ripped the skeletons out of the dead crew, killing them. Since the ship was towed in, two dock works have been found dead, the same way. Clark steals her badge and leaves.
Chloe and Lana search the manor for Lex without success. He can see them but is unable to contact them and they have no idea he’s there. They’re unable to hack the computer for the security footage and Chloe leaves with the hard drive. Lana admits that she just wants to have Lex back again. Chloe and Lana leave, but a man appears to Lex. Lex recognizes the man as Bronson, prisoner #142 at Level 33.1. Bronson boasts that he has the power to send people to other “frequencies” and has done so with Lex. Lex tries to grab him but Bronson disappears.
Chloe calls Jimmy in to help as Lana arrives. She shows Lana the video footage she’s decrypted which reveals that a static outline was present when Lex disappeared. Lana gets a call from Bronson, who doesn’t give his name. Lana secretly arranges to meet Bronson behind the Talon. She meets him there and he explains that he wants payment in returning for restoring Lex back to reality. Bronson tells Lana about Level 33.1 where Lex conducts experiments on the meteor-infected. He wants her to reveal it to the world and then he’ll free Lex.
In Seattle, Clark talks to a policeman. After he leaves, the killer, a huge hulking figure, emerges and kills the policeman as the latter follows a blood trail. The killer rips out the policeman’s spine, killing him.
As they go to Level 33.1, Bronson explains that he has the ability to shift between different planes of existence. They arrive at the warehouse but they discover that someone has cleaned out the entire place. Lana tries to get Bronson to release Lex but he disappears. He returns to the manor and demands answers from Lex. Lex claims he doesn’t know where the other 33.1 prisoners are and Bronson disappears to go get Lana and use her to force Lex to tell him the truth.
Jimmy meets with Chloe and Lana and shows them his basement. He’s set up his ham radio that belonged to his father, and has managed to pick up an odd frequency on the security footage. He descrambles it and shows them Lex, figuring he’s on another frequency of existence and trapped in the study. Realizing Lex is there, Lana heads back to the manor.
As Clark checks the docks, he finds the killer attacking a worker. Clark manages to save the man and uses the crystal, but discovers it doesn’t work. The killer, Aldar, throws Clark away using super strength and escapes.
Chloe hacks into the LuthorCorp computer to get floorplans and watches as the files are deleted. Lionel comes in and asks for her help. Chloe believes he’s responsible for deleting the files. Lionel ignores her accusation and she tells him she learned about 33.1 from Lana. Lionel leaves and Jimmy comes in to tell Chloe he can use his father’s antique equipment to pinpoint Lex’s particular frequency.
In the study, Lana talks to Lex, knowing he’s there, and tells him that she’s having his baby. Bronson appears, grabs her, and transports her to Lex’s frequency. He uses a knife to threaten her and demands to know where the 33.1 prisoners are. Lex still denies knowing about it. Chloe and Jimmy arrive and use Jimmy’s equipment to bring them all back. When Bronson tries to fade out with Lana, Lex grabs him and goes with him. The two struggle and Lex ends up stabbing Bronson with the knife. He then asks Lana if she was telling the truth. She admits she was and they embrace as Jimmy brings them back to reality.
In Seattle, Clark finds Aldar hiding in a warehouse. Aldar overpowers Clark and prepares to kill him, but suddenly collapses, dead. Clark discovers that there’s a hand-shaped burn mark on Aldar’s back. He sees a figure moving outside at superspeed. Clark goes to confront him, stepping on an Oreo cookie. The new individual glares at Clark with glowing red eyes and then flies off into the skies.
Chloe, Jimmy, and Lana go back to the empty 33.1 building. Chloe wonders what happened and if there was any truth to Bronson’s story, but Lana insists that Clark is telling the truth.
Lex goes to see Lionel and demands to know why he’s interfering with 33.1 and moved it without his permission. Lionel admits he’s impressed that Lex has taken the research so much further. He agrees to give Lex the new 33.1 location in return for becoming a full partner.
Clark tells Chloe what happened and how someone helped him. He wonders who it was and Chloe says that sometimes even he needs help.
Lex goes back to the manor and talks to Lana, insisting he’s happy about the news. She warns him about how there are people with powers that threaten them both. He takes her to the study, which he’s filled with roses and candles for her. Lex then gives her an engagement ring and proposes to her.
