Progeny - Recap

In March 1995, a woman, Moira, is at home when her daughter comes in, boasting of her article in her elementary school newspaper. Moira apologizes to her daughter, Chloe, as two men come in to take Moira to a sanitarium.

In the present, Lex is out driving and gets a call from a doctor in his employ. The doctor informs him that he hasn’t been able to get his patient to admit she has powers. A pickup truck drives at Lex and forces him off the road. The driver gets out, smashes in Lex’s window, knocks him out, and takes his cell phone. The driver is Chloe.

Chloe wakes up the next morning and doesn’t remember anything from the night before. She discovers that she has muddy boots in her room. When Clark visits, Chloe tells him that she’s had other blackouts and wonders if it’s related to her kryptonite power.

Lex returns to the manor and talks with Lana, who is mourning her unborn child’s death. She wants to have a complete checkout to find out what went wrong and Lex readily agrees.

Chloe and Clark are out driving and spot the police checking out Lex’s car on the side of the road. Clark spots one of Lex’s men and listens to him call Lex. The man reports that a flash drive is missing. Clark uses his x-ray vision and spots a button. He grabs it at superspeed and determines that it belongs to Chloe. Figuring she did something while she was blacked out, they go back to her apartment and discover the missing flash drive. They open it up and find a file on an unnamed meteor freak who apparently has the power to control other meteor freaks. Chloe finds a photo of the individual and recognizes her as Moira.

Lex goes to a LuthorCorp facility where Moira is being held. She asks to be released now that they’ve given her a drug that’s brought her out of her catatonic state. She claims she doesn’t have any superpowers but Lex notes that she checked herself in because she claimed she could control Chloe by touching anything belonging to her daughter. Moira insists she was delusional but Lex asks her to demonstrate her power on another meteor freak. Moira refuses.

Chloe takes Clark to the sanitarium where her mother was being kept. The attendant there recognizes Chloe and calls security, saying she was there before and tried to break in. Clark and Chloe move away and Clark then goes back in at superspeed to check things out.

Moira is taken to a room where she’s locked in with another meteor freak, Lowell. He starts to attack her using his super-strength and knocks his pen off the table. She touches it and instinctively stops Lowell from attacking her.

Clark steals the security tape from Chloe’s visit. They discover that Chloe tried to get in to see Moira, and figure that Moira controlled Chloe into stealing the flash drive from Lex to find her. They go to the manor to talk to Lex, unaware he’s at the LuthorCorp facility.

At the facility, Lex is trying to get Moira to use her powers to make mental contact with an escaped prisoner, and promises to let her see Chloe if she agrees. Moira gives in and takes the object belonging to the prisoner. She makes mental contact with him, but command him to find and kill Lex. The man goes to the manor to find him, and Lana is there. He telekinetically grabs her with his power and knocks her out. Clark and Chloe arrive and Clark knocks him out. Unaware that Lana is no longer pregnant, Chloe tells Clark to get Lana to the hospital right away. Once he’s gone, she determines that Lowell has the same memory blackout she does, then threatens him until he tells the location of the facility.

At the hospital, the doctor confirms that Lana is okay. Clark visits her and Lana admits she miscarried several days earlier. She tells Clark not to worry about her.

Lex goes to see Moira and threatens to go after Chloe in response to Moira endangering Lana. Meanwhile, Chloe goes to the Kent farm, having discovered that Moira is being kept at an old abandoned hospital. As she tells Clark, Moira makes mental contact with her and forces her to leave any way that she can. Clark suspects something is up but Chloe manages to get him away long enough to get a piece of kryptonite and render him helpless. As she drives out of town to her mother, LuthorCorp operatives disguised as road workers have her pull over, and then drug her and take her to the facility. Chloe and Moira are reunited, and Moira explains that she had herself locked away because she unconsciously caused Chloe to harm herself. She insists that she has to protect Chloe by taking care of Lex.

Martha comes home and finds the weakened Clark, and throws the kryptonite away.

Chloe tricks a guard into opening the door, then slips out and manages to find Lowell’s hat. She gets it back to Moira, who mentally commands the boy to rescue them. He attacks the guards who manage to tranquilize him, but he frees Chloe and Moira. The guards grab Moira, who mentally compels Chloe to do whatever she needs to so she can escape. She grabs a gun from a guard and aims it at Lex when he arrives. Clark arrives and invisibly saves Lex as Chloe shoots at him.

Chloe gets Moira to the clocktower, but Moira is slowly losing her coherence as the drugs Lex’s scientists gave her wear off. Chloe desperately offers to try and get more of the drug but Moira refuses to let her and says she loves her before she goes back into a catatonic state.

Later, Chloe is at the Daily Planet doing a story on Lex exposing his entire scheme. Lex comes in and tries to blackmail her, threatening to press charges because of her attack on her. When Chloe refuses to give in, he warns that he has much worse against her and leaves.

Lex’s personal physician visits Lana at the hospital and tells her that there are traces of synthetic hormones in her body, which would cause her to show pregnant when she wasn’t. He believes that Lana administered them to herself to trick Lex into marrying her, but she insists that she and Lex saw the sonograms.

Chloe visits Clark at the barn and he assures her that he told Moira everything about Chloe and what she had done with her life. She tells Clark about Lex’s visits and they worry about the war to come.
