<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
At Lex’s Project Ares base, security alarms go off. Lex has his men secure the tunnels as an invisible invader moves through the tunnels and easily defeating the security guards. It gets to the lab where Lex is stationed and comes after him. Lex shoots the intruder without the effect… and then tells him to stand down. The intruder is Wes Keenan, Lex’s test subject for his super-soldier program. Lex is impressed but orders another intruder test.

At the manor, Lana is working on flowers when Lex arrives and checks her recent bullet wound. Senator Burke arrives to meet with Lex privately and says that he’s concerned that Lex is gearing up for mass production of super-soldiers via Project Ares. Burke informs Lex that there was a mole in Lex’s organization but he’s been eliminated. He threatens to shut down the project rather than risk personal exposure and the ruin of his career. Burke tells Lex that if he goes public with the senator’s involvement, he’ll make sure that LuthorCorp is fully investigated. As he leaves, Burke and Lex are both unaware that Lana has been listening in.

At his office, Lionel is reviewing the stolen flash drive with the footage of the couple that was attacked. He freezes the image at the spot where a strange creature seems to attack them. Clark arrives to ask if Lionel convinced Lana to change her mind about leaving Lex. Lionel denies it despite Clark’s threats.

Chloe is at the Talon regretting her breakup with Jimmy. Lois is trying to comfort her with her usual lack of tact. Clark arrives and notes that Chloe is keeping secrets from him, but she refuses to say anything.

Later, Lois sets up a meeting with Senator Burke. She has information about a secret bank account but he refuses to confirm or deny. He orders his men to remove her but Wes Keenan arrives and kills the bodyguards and then Senator Burke. When he pauses, Lois recognizes him. He quickly leaves as the police arrive.

At the Daily Planet the next day, Clark learns about Burke’s murder from Chloe and Lois. The paper is running the story as a mob hit but Lois tells them what she saw. She recognized Wes Keenan as an army brat that she met while moving from base to base with her father. Chloe checks computer records and determines that Wes was reported as dying overseas during a mission.

At the Project Ares base, Lex’s technicians monitor Wes’ vital signs. Despite the fact Wes’ murders are being written off as mob hits, Lex tells Wes to kill Lois to make sure nothing compromises their cover story.

Realizing Lois’ life is at risk, Clark and Martha hide her at the Kent farm. Lois asks Martha to try and discover what happened to Wes. Once Martha leaves, Wes arrives and attacks Clark, and possesses sufficient super-strength and speed to send the Kryptonian flying. He moves in to kill Lois but she calls out to him by name and he hesitates. Finally he grabs her and disappears. Clark checks with Chloe, who has learned that Wes was married to Jodi Keenan, the woman who attacked Lex. Clark tells Chloe to notify Oliver and his team while he goes off to get some information.

Lex is having dinner with Lana when he gets a report that Wes failed to return. As he goes out to take the call in private, Clark slips in. Lana tells him about Project Ares and what she overheard earlier. However, she refuses to tell him why she married Lex after all. Lex returns and Clark slips out before he can spot him.

Wes takes Lois to an abandoned military base. When she wakes up, she tries to get through to him but his memories have been wiped. However, when Lois describes to him how they grew up together and she was the first guy she kissed, he starts to remember his past.

Lex goes back to Ares and demands to know why Wes is malfunctioning. The scientist warns that Wes is unpredictable because of all the metahuman DNA they’ve grafted on, using Titan’s genetic structure. The scientist accesses the LuthorCorp satellite and sends a pulse to reinforce Wes’ programming and bring him back on-line.

Wes recovers many of his memories and tells Lois how he volunteered for Project Ares believing it was aimed at finding cures for severely wounded soldier. When the satellite pulse goes off, he convulses and warns Lois to run before he becomes a mindless programmed killer again.

Chloe learns from Oliver that he and his team fought another Ares super-soldier and just managed to defeat him. Martha has checked Wes' files and learned he stayed at the military base. Clark superspeeds there as the reprogrammed Wes traps Lois, captures her, and starts to kill her. Clark arrives and manages to get Lois away, but Wes attacks him. When Wes keeps coming, Clark has no choice but to use his heat vision at maximum intensity. As Wes lies dying in Lois’ arms, he tells her that he recognizes her and that he’ll die as a human being.

Later, Clark tells Martha what happened and she admits she can’t do anything. Lionel arrives and suggests that she take Burke’s seat as U.S. Senator. Clark encourages her to do so, noting she can help many more people that way.

At the manor, Lex is on the phone making sure that Wes’ body is sent back to Ares for analysis. Lana arrives and asks where she is, and he notes that he’s well aware that she was listening in to his conversation with Burke. She half-heartedly apologizes and Lex tells her that he’ll be glad to answer any questions she has. He admits he doesn’t know what he’d do if she betrayed him.

At the Daily Planet, Lois tells Chloe and Clark that Wes’ body has disappeared from the morgue. She promise that Lex will never do the same thing to anyone else.

At Ares, Lex tells his scientists to dissect Wes’ body and take whatever they can from it. When the head scientists warns that they don’t have enough resources to make another, Lex shows them a storage facility filled with other super-soldiers, maintained in comas until the time is right.
