Clark and Kara go to Smallville’s centennial Harvest Festival. Kara would rather be out looking for the missing crystal, but Clark explains that she needs to learn human customs so she can fit in. Kara isn’t impressed until she spots one particular human: Jimmy Olsen. Meanwhile, Clark tells about how they’ll be opening a time capsule for the centennial, and that outlaws a hundred years ago supposedly hid a fortune in gold in the capsule.

Three contestants for the Miss Sweet Corn Beauty Contest arrive: Tempest, Carly, and Tyler. They start moving through the crowd, trying to get votes. One of them, Carly, separates from the others and calls someone, talking about the gold in the capsule. She goes into the flower shop… and suddenly the room temperature drops, freezing her solid.

Later, Clark is working at the barn. Lana comes to see him and they embrace. She explains that she faked her death and didn’t tell him to keep him safe. She doesn’t want to tell anyone else because she needs to clear her name and reestablish her identity as a living person first. Clark offers Lana a place to stay and starts to explain he has another guest. Kara comes in, practicing posture for the beauty contest. Lana leaves Clark to talk to his cousin in private, and he tries to explain that entering a beauty contest isn’t a good idea when keeping a low profile. Kara isn’t impressed and Clark realizes he has no choice but to help her learn to master her powers. When he has trouble, Kara goes off, saying she’ll learn on her own.

In town, Tyler and Tempest are preparing for the beauty contest when Tyler tells her friend that she disposed of Carly. Kara arrives and tries to befriend them, but they dismiss her. As Kara walks away, she notices Carly, frozen inside the flowershop.

Agent Carter of the Department of Domestic Security visits Lex at LuthorCorp. He wants to know everything that Lex can tell him about the mysterious woman at the dam, but Lex denies knowing anything.

At the Daily Planet, Chloe meets with Jimmy, who is back selling photo and has a shot of Carly’s grisly death. However, Chloe says that she’s out of the freak death business and is trying to do regular news to bolster her reputation. However, Grant Gabriel gets off the phone with Lois (who is on assignment in New York), and tells Chloe to investigate the story because he wants to run tabloid-style news. Chloe objects but ends up leaving with Jimmy to investigate.

At the farm, Clark admits to Lana that he might have been too tough on her.

At the Talon, the beauty contestants are practicing for the finals in 24 hours. Jimmy is taking pictures and Kara notices him again. The sheriff asks questions about the dead girl and Tempest and Tyler overhear him. They quietly discuss going after the time capsule and the gold, using the pageant as a distraction. However, they notice Jimmy taking pictures of them and figure he may have overheard them. As he goes outside, Tempest follows and uses her power to start freezing him to death inside his car. As Jimmy lies dying, Kara spots him and yanks the car door off, getting him to safety. She’s unaware that Tempest has seen her use her powers.

Lana contacts Lex and arranges to meet with him alone at the barn. She’s taken advantage of his largess to have Lex set up her so she can regain her status as a living person. However, she refuses to forgive him despite his efforts. Lex points out that she embezzled $10 million from him and wonders what Clark would think, and then asks about Clark’s cousin. He notes that he’s looking forward to meeting her.

Clark and Chloe find Kara with Jimmy at the hospital. When Clark wonders if anyone saw her use her powers to rescue, Kara snaps at him. Chloe has checked her files and discovered that Tempest, Carly, and Tyler all gained weather-related powers during the meteor shower. Now they use their powers to commit robberies while entering beauty contests. She figures that they’re going after the time capsule.

Later, Kara goes to the Talon to prepare for the contest. Tempest and Tyler confront her and reveal they know about her powers. They offer to cut her in for a share of the treasure if she helps with the theft. Kara isn’t interested until they show her a historical photo from a hundred years ago. In the photo the gold is visible, along with a Kryptonian medallion.

That night, Tyler and Tempest go to the excavation site only to discover that Kara isn’t there. They go back to the contest and discover that Kara is there, participating. They enter as well, while Clark arrives to check up on Kara.

At the manor, Lex meets with Agent Carter and tells him that the woman from the dam doesn’t exist and that Lex just hallucinated her. Walker is skeptical, but Lex moves onto his primary goal: he turns all of his files on Smallville over to Walker and asks the agent for help.

Kara wins the contest but the sheriff arrives and arrests her for attempted robbery. In jail, Kara explains to Clark and Chloe that she found map that showed where the capsule really was, but Tyler took it from her and then framed her for the crime. She tells them what the directions on the map lead to.

Tyler and Tempest are digging up the capsule when Clark arrives. Tyler hits him with a tornado, which doesn’t affect him. However, it does unearth kryptonite in the area, weakening him. Kara breaks out of jail, arrives to defeat them both, and destroys the kryptonite with her heat vision. Clark apologizes, admitting that he should have let her learn how to use her powers on her own.

The next day, Clark and Kara examine the Kryptonian medallion. Kara believes it’s a SOS that was sent to Earth and then buried a hundred years ago. Much to Clark’s surprise, Kara tells him that she’s become a waitress at the Talon. Clark warns that it might be dangerous, but insists that Earth is his home. Kara warns him that no matter what he does or looks like, he’s an alien and can’t have a normal life no matter how much he wants one.

Lex receives word from one of his men that they’ve found his mystery woman.

Chloe and Jimmy go to the Talon to get coffee and discuss the meteor freaks. Kara brings them coffee and notices Jimmy, which Chloe notices.

As Clark and Lana go to the Corn Harvest carnival, Clark says that he will always care for her and Lana says she doesn’t want the past to come between them.

At the Talon that night, Kara is preparing to leave when Lex arrives and invites her to have a cappuccino with him. When he claims she’s the woman who rescued him, Kara denies it but Lex warns her that he’ll find out the truth.
